Hi all,
I have two khaki campbells; I got one when she was four weeks old just under three years ago and I got another one when she was two years old in May 2016 to replace one that had died, so they are both the same age.
Neither of them are laying. The first duck that I mentioned was laying...
The new duck has layed 2 very soft shelled eggs a few days ago, but nithing since then. Now the other duck, who was molting, has stopped. Last night she wasn't eating any mealworms or moving around much. This morning I found a broken, soft-shelled egg in the coop. She is eating and drinking but...
Not 100% sure, but she isn't laying and seems to be trying to push something out.
She was foraging with my other duck. Then she was just standing wagging her tail. Now she's eating layered pellets.
I really have no idea what's wrong with her at all:( It's an on and off thing
Another update: she seems to be happy enough, we just put her in the small pool and she was spashing and preening herself but she is wagging her tail an awful lot and trying to push something out
I've taken a look at the new duck, Australis, and she seems to be egg bound. She is sitting down and tensing for the past couple of hours. I've tried putting her in warm water but she's too afraid of me and seems to be more stressed. What else can I do? I don't know how much longer I have to...
I have 2 khaki campbells. They lay almost everyday and they can be loud.
They have a really funny personality. Sometimes they would just waddle around the place for no reason in perticular!
I would recommend getting KCs:)
Thanks so much everyone for your help I really appreciate it
Tomorrow I will leave them out later than 8. If they're still not laying after that then I will just have to be patient
What breed do you have? I know that khakis are a nervous breed but I tamed mine by petting them at a very young age and by just being near them so that they get used to me.
Don't get Call or Pekin ducks if you want quietness. Definately not.
I have two khaki campbells and they are loud, but I know other Khaki Campbells that are not so loud at all.
Mallards are a quiet breed but they're not that good for laying eggs.
If she is becoming a mammy duck then she will get very pretective of her ducklings, naturally. Just keep your normal friendship with her and she'll be happy!
All my friends thought (and a few think) that I was crazy to get ducks. But I love them sooo much. I have a house situtated in a small city with a tiny garden and I still manage to fit them both in!
I have checked all around the garden for eggs. I found 2, but they were very old and I checked in the same place this morning but found none.
I left out the ducks at around 7:45 am this morning and Australis (the new duck) was in the nesting box so I decided to leave her alone.
My sister and I...
Thank you so much:weee
Yes, the first duck (Solstice) died of egg peritonitis. The old duck (Goggin) did have that aswell, but she doesn't show any of the symptoms that she does when she is sick.
I will definately look into de-worming them both just in case
Both ducks that we have now are very...
