    If you're concerned about inbreeding,just use one roo and keep track of the hen he is mounting.. If you have one roo, use the offspring to hatch that would be like father to grand daugher or grand son..same concept in breeding goats. You would want father to dauther and father to aunt father...

    I did it I did it!!!!!!!!!! I had a tub with straw...picked up mama and put her in the tub, wow wow 12 babies...picked them up and gave to mama...had lots of hay in the bottom coop..made a circle nest and put mama in it...babies followed...went back to get the last egg..found one...

    yes and all from meyer. I spoke to them today, they deny everything that they made a mistake. They deny that the hens didn't lay until after a year, and they don't brood, is why I chose that breed.

    I just had three black from my "so called" pure buffs from Meyer hatchery. These eggs are from hens I have on the property and incubated. All are buffs, but are producing black chicks. I will never order from Meyer again...after getting the chicks via mail, 4 have died with in a year...the rest...

    I candle at day 6 and don't open the brooder so temp and humidity don't fluctuate. even on this forum and others, opening the brooder fluctuating humidity and temp would cause poor hatch rates.

    How can you determine the weight of eggs when you aren't supposed to disturb them during incubation? I don't know anyone that measure the weight their eggs. I have had successful hatches with 65-70% humidity in previous years...confused about these hatches...I think it's the hatchery I got...

    The humidity stayed about 65 and I raised to 70 thinking that was the problem... Yes I have two hydrometers and temps...they both were off...never found one right to exact...tried the calibration for hydro...just doesn't work. So far the last one is still breathing. According to reading this...
