One of two chicks I got this February had gradually been losing mobility, I took her to an avian vet recently, and while he didn’t run any diagnostics, he was pretty much certain she has Mareks. Her quality of life has definitely decreased, and I’m planning on euthanizing her.
My question is...
Looks like a hen to me! Did you get her as a pullet? Cream Legbars are an auto sexing breed, meaning you can tell their sex as chicks based on feather pattern. The girls have a complete brown 'chipmunk' stripe down their back, while the boys will have a broken one or none at all, and typically...
You’ll probably have to keep forcing it down. If you hold her beak closed after putting the pill in she’ll swallow it quicker. A little snack afterwards will cheer her up.
The poop doesn’t look like pictures I’ve seen of Newcastle disease poop.
Which looks much more mucousy and green than your hens. I had an otherwise healthy hen who would often get diarrhea like your hen’s. Turned out that she would forget to drink water throughout the day before guzzling it...
Don’t. This is a really horrible idea, that area is sensitive, even if some chickens can survive without the eye, doing it yourself with no medicine is risky. Is the problem that she keeps irritating her eye fighting? I can’t think of much you can do besides isolating her in a silkie only flock...
Try making a cozy little box for her to sit in with bedding. If she’s having trouble eating, mix up some feed with water (hot water might be good) this should be easier for her to eat, especially if in a bowl and easy to access. Make sure she stays hydrated. Depends on personality, but she might...
Chickens have very strong digestive systems, not saying you should, but I’ve caught mine eating rotten mice before! As for meat, I can’t think of any that would be harmful, maybe heavily seasoned or salted meats, but most will be fine in moderation.
As long as your climate isn’t too cold it should be fine, as long as you can access and clean the poop. Only thing is the eggs. Most people put their egg boxes in the coop, but if you can figure something out for that should be fine.
Will this be temporary? I'm not sure how beneficial it would be to give a blind rooster a hen-friend. And unless sick/disabled indoor chickens really aren't a good idea- they like being outside. What do you mean by wobbling? Is she unable to stand?
The chick will probably pass the string on its own, chickens digestive systems are tough! Although it’s possible that the yarn could cause a blockage in the crop, making it impacted. You could try giving the chick some food mixed with water to push the string along, as well as very gently...
Like nuthatched said, a complete feed is made up of more than just grains. Often protein in the form of blood/bone meal is added, as well as various other vitamins as supplements. Sprouted grains would create more volume in food, but would not be sufficiently nutritious as a feed on its own.
They look like normal blue/green eyes to me. Chicken #1's pupils look funny because the brown around the center. If you're worried, take a small flashlight and shine it in their eyes to see how their pupils react to the light. Light colored eyes also tend to fade to orange over time, so enjoy...
They're much too young to sex, they won't start showing signs for a few more weeks. Are you looking for breed ID? Because four of them look to be silkie chicks, and the striped one a sort of sex link.
