another update i guess
we ended up taking her to a vet and they found that she had ingested metal, in spite of how protective and obsessive we are about trying to keeping them safe. there was a blockage because her body was withering away from the metal. It was too much damage to her organs and...
UPDATE: scratch literally everything i said above, it's an impacted crop that masqueraded as sour crop.
is there anything i can give her (food wise) to help her get nutrition? she's still thin. i have probiotic/nutrient powder mixed in with her water and i'm worried about her going without...
an additional note, on her first day in the tractor we withheld her pellets to ensure she got grit and gave her ACV with a scrambled egg. we didn’t want to keep her completely without food but we wanted to make sure her crop wasn’t impacted. It is now the morning after.
hi everyone! I’ve got a lavender orpington named Tofu and she’s just over a year old and a bit underweight now. the last few days she’s been under the weather and today she has a REALLY nasty poop. I’ll show a pic and tell y’all what’s been going on.
We had run out of feed for about a day or...
our boy had never fully regained his ability to walk, but he was happy. we lost him yesterday to what may have been a coyote. here are a few photos from the last month or two. i think this will be my last post on this thread.
i sadly want to inform everybody that we’ve lost our boy. not to his disease, but a predator. we aren’t really sure what happened, but we’re guessing by the feathers and no body to be found that it was a coyote.
We’ve been doing more range of motion therapy for him and it’s helping him loosen up some more since he curls his feet so much and uses his tiptoes when he walks. The vet doesn’t think he’s in any pain, but it’s mainly to prevent early arthritis best we can. It seems to help…I put him down...
..suppose it's time to update everyone. he's still alive and doing ... relatively well?
he's made a significant improvement but is paraplegic. he's walking around our property bit by bit daily and socializing with some of the other ladies, and we've done enough PT that he can get to food and...
ohhh. That's where I had it wrong. I was told even as chicks they shouldn't have yellow skin. that helps me feel a little better.
she's such a terrible layer. probably our worst. 😂 we expected more but she lays maybe an egg a week if we're lucky, but she seems perfectly healthy.
We got this little lady advertised as a Black Austrolorp, along with one other that had been the same breed. She in particular had yellow bottoms of her feet which we thought was normal, but she grew up to look quite different from her sibling. She’s lithe and always had low egg laying rate...
Oh, shoot. Sorry. I didn’t get a notification that this had a response. Sorry about that.
His cage let him stand freely but it restricted walking. It’s now since become his sleeping cage and we let him have a small fenced area in our yard.
We wormed him with Albendazole with a higher dose a...
Thank you so much. We probably won't switch to oral instead of injections, he gets really freaked out when we try to give him meds orally and hardly reacted when we did the injection. We'll keep doing the poultry cell orally via syringe, though, since his cage won't have room for the cell and...
Update: still doesn’t like his feet being touched, but there’s no heat difference. The leg he initially favored before he started struggling with both of them is red, but it’s the area he’s been using to walk rather than his feet.
He does have feeling in his legs! He does seem tender because he’s been having to walk on his hocks. He never liked his feet being touched, but we didn’t feel any particularly hotter spot on his feet up to his hip, but it’s a little difficult when he’s just a big and warm chicken. We can check...
Hey everyone! Our dark brahma roo, Roach, had what we thought was a leg sprain around the 29th of July so we put him in a small tractor to discourage a lot of movement (he still could move around, but it’s capacity was for 4 standard chickens and it only fit him lol). He’s been spending almost...
Overly worried mama was overly worried. He started actually crowing yesterday. Thanks guys 😂 here’s the video I got of him crowing this morning

Hi! My dark Brahma just hit 20 weeks and he’s trying to crow. Or that’s what it looks like. He’s acting like he’s in a silent film, making the neck curve and everything, opens his mouth a LITTLE bit, but it’s as if he doesn’t even know what noise to make. Has anyone else had a rooster do that...
