Hey guys, long time no post!
Our rooster is suddenly acting weird and I figured this would be the best place to ask. Hes a 4 year old EE roo, absolutely lovely, very friendly and has always been very good to his hens, making sure to cluck at them for food, keep them together when their out, and...
If you have eggs too you can make Clafoutis - It's like a yummy cherry custard! We made that when we had an excess of cherries last summer!! Boy are they good!
Hey all, I just got the results back from the necropsy I had done. She had a softshell egg wrapped up in her, like literally, it had somehow broke then got twisted on the way out. =[ The vet said their wouldn't have been any fix to it. Oh well I suppose, she was a lovely hen and I'll miss her...
An update - she passed away about a half hour ago I'll miss my little mika. I think I'm going to try to get a necropsy on her to see if I can find what killed her.
Argh. Well it is kind of like the foamy yellow worm poop but runnier. To tsc I go. Any idea how long it'll take after I worm her for her to be up and normal again?
Update - She just pooped for the first time since this morning. I gave her a warm sitz bath - it was very runny and very pasty yellow. =\ I really don't think it's worms.
Hi everyone,
This is the first time one of our hens has been ill (thank the lord, three years and no sicknesses) and I really don't know what I should be looking for.
We have a 2 year old Black orpington hen, yesterday I noticed she was acting a little off, she had bad diarrhea stuck to her butt...
If it's any help, the little chick in the picture was small and had pasty but for about two weeks before he "grew out of it" and turned into a gorgeous, HUGE rooster. With this little guy I just wiped the pasty off his butt about 4-5 times a day and applied a little Preparation H once a day. And...
Hi everyone,
So our first venture with an incubator has been less that fantastic. We started out with 26 eggs, around day 11 someone accidentally turned up the heat and they spent a night way over 101 degrees. I candled a few days later and there were 10 still very alive, so I put those back...
Hi everyone,
Our small flock (about 25) has gotten a BAD infestation of mites. With the warm weather, it never got cold and all the wild birds brought them in. We've been itchy and battling the mites since the beginning of February, and after using flock spray and DE and thinking (WRONG) we got...
Thanks everyone for your support! I plan on sending a letter to the editor in my local paper. The pet store is a pretty sketch place anyway, it's always dirty and the animals in there always look sick, so not many people I know shop there anyway. It really didn't surprise me when I found out...
I agree, I had a Old English Hen that looked just like that - plus two of our Old English Hens crow everyday! I don't know if it's the breed or what, but they are very high strung hens.
Hey everyone, sorry I haven't gotten back to you - it was a crazy weekend. I picked the chicks up around noon and felt everyone over, they were skinny and quiet and one was panting, which I thought was a bad sign... She brought out their box and I noticed no dishes were in it, I asked "When were...
Yeah - I agree, the pages and forums leave a lot to be desired. But I do love the magazine and there's a "henhouse" near my house, so hopefully getting along with other members will be fun!
Maybe - I'd think maybe barred rocks, but they're brown. She swears her boyfriend was told they were brockwells. I think she got fed a line of crap because they were bought at a petstore *sigh* I'm excited for my little mystery hens though!
Hi everyone,
I've been battling mites HARDCORE since the beginning of Feb (curse this warm winter we had!!) I've been through two bags of DE, bottle after bottle of Poultry protector, I've cleaned the coop down twice - I'm really trying to beat them without using sevin, but I think it's going to...
