Thank you dear, I did the same, I bought a spray which cures the wound and changes the color red to black just like her feathers. But still they attack her. I don't know what to do actually.
Dears all,
I have 5 (six-week old) chicks. They acted normal from the hatch until 3 days ago. On Monday morning, when I checked the coop, I found one black chick with blood on her face and head. When I noticed them for ten minutes, the other four pecked at her (all of them). I quickly removed...
They will be fine if you take care of them in terms of fresh water, weather, good quality food and well-organized coop. I personally never had my chicks and hens vaccinated, yet non of them got ill.
Thank you very much dear, I well noted your reply. Thanks again. I separated the chicks from yesterday and cured the two injured chicks, they seem fine and eat/drink well.
Thanks again
Thank you dear for your reply. I appreciate it. Do you think that she will be able to cope with them once they grow enough after a couple of weeks for example? Or she should be separated forever?
Thank you very much dear, I just saw your reply which is really helpful. What about the hen? I have only that hen and the 5 chicks. Should she be alone? The temperature outside is about 15 or less at night, do they survive outside without their mom?
Thank you again
Dears all,
I have a broody hen hatching 5 chicks. Now, the chicks are 23 days old. Until yesterday they did not have any problem and mom did her best protecting them. But, this morning when I woke up, I heard noise, once I went to the coop, I saw the mom pecking at two of the chicks brutally...
It depends on the breed. My Kurdish pullets started laying when they were only 4 months old, and went broody when they were five. Now, one of them is mama of 5 chicks and she is only 6 months old.
Yes, sometimes newly broody hen lays an egg while set on the eggs. Mine was set with 9 eggs on Sunday, I checked under her on Monday; the eggs were 10. Then stopped laying and continued sitting on them (5 hatched, 4 still under her, 1 was infertile and removed after candling in day 10).
Thank you dear, my broody is still sitting on the remaining eggs. (5 hatched and 4 remaining).
Here is a pic of the broody with a chick under her wing :)
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to say thank you for your advice. My brilliant Kurdish pullet who is only 6 months old hatched 3 chicks in day 20 (yesterday) and this morning when I woke up, I checked under her, another one hatched. There were 9 eggs under her (4 hatched and 5 are still under her)...
