maybe try it? sometimes the mom is attacking any threats to her babies... they get confused. Is the momma hen still sitting on the nest? if she is, maybe try and put the baby chick under her at night... watch close for awhile.. see what happens
hi! I bought 2 baby chicks to be with her... they are all fine! I raised them all together, and then slowly introduced them to the main flock. At about 3 weeks I put them in a secured run, so the flock could observe and interact with them, then at 5 weeks I let them mingle with the group. All...
I live in BC and I have some people from Manitoba and Alberta that are interested in obtaining some of my fertilized eggs... does anyone know the procedure? where do I start?
it was sad, I knew she was so confused when I isolated her ... she was so social and missed being with the flock, I'm soo very glad her death was quick. she was a sweetheart. the tumor/growth never slowed her down, she waddled and even ran, and layed an egg almost every day!
my Australorpe hen passed away on the weekend... the skin on the growth split open, and her internal organs were exposed. I isolated as the other hens were picking at her.... she ate and drank until her death. In fact she died eating, she was found with her face in her food dish. She layed...

he was so handsome, but a total nut case! terrorized all the hens, and was just plain annoying! I sold him to a farm that has pea hens and a peacock, sheep and several regular laying hens on 18 acres... it's a lot quieter here now. I...
my hen with the swollen red butt doesn't seem to be in any pain... she gets around, runs even. When I first noticed it a few months back, I bathed her in hot epsom salts, isolated her etc... she hated it. The benefit of isolating her was I got to observe her. She ate well, layed eggs and was...

the last time it was only three, that was last spring, that's when she ate the eggs/chicks... she doesn't get out of the nesting box until I put her in a broody pen... now she is sitting on 5 eggs, sort of... I see a couple off to the side :|

thanks Miss Lydia! I thought the same! but why are the eggs that the broody cochins not healthy, and the ones I incubate are 90% successful?? I'm giving her a try again, but I keep looking at her and she doesn't seem too interested??? it's like she would rather just sit on air/nothing?
