Not sure if you're still having prolapse issues, but if so try keeping her in near total darkness and feed only low-protein feed for 2-3 weeks. Inject hemorrhoid cream into vent using small needleless syringe. Per my Vet. Hard, I know, but it worked with one of my bantams. The reduced light and...
I've been lurking and keeping my fingers crossed for you. Yeah! What about Kellen as a name? Good for pullet or cockerel, Irish name which means warrior. Also, I've had only 1 hatch two different times and I've found that it is hard to keep them warm enough w/o hatch mates, even with heat lamp...
Great information posted already. I'll just add or reaffirm, based on our experience with a Mille Fleur bantam, to:
1). Keep her in the dark 24/7 for at least 2 weeks...longer if possible
2). Feed her low protein food such as millet bird seed mix...not BOSS. This is to discourage laying. I...
Thanks, I had already tracked those down before posting. Most are referring to chicks' eye color changing as they mature, although one did mention nutrition which I didn't think would be an issue because I feed a decent chicken feed. Although, maybe layer pellets aren't great for the long-term...
Thank you for the feedback. It's not cold here.....July in South Carolina hot. I'll try some ACV. I think strangest thing is that his eye color changed.
I have a 3 year old rooster whose eyes have recently changed color from red-orange to pale gold. The tips of his comb are sometimes blue/purple. He also seems more docile than usual. Is it usual for eye color to change at 3 years old? Are these symptoms of disease?
- He is in a 4x4 house with a...
The pullets' coloring still seems in line with GSM, remember GMSs can be blue, but the Roo's brown chest is throwing me. Please keep us posted on feathering and cant' wait to see an egg. Again, they probably have other color genes in there that will need to be sifted out or they may be ? who...
This is one of our BCM chicks from last spring. She doesn't have a single white feather now and lays our darkest egg. Very glad that we let her grow out. Looking at these pictures side by side I noticed that foot color on the rooster looks yellowish. Or is that just the lighting?
Oh, so sorry! I'd separate her and start by giving her a warm bath to soak the poo off. Make sure to keep her warm. You mentioned blood in her poo and stinky poos. What about Coccidiosis? We used Cordid (amprolium) in the past when we suspected Coccidiosis.
Thank you Wynette. Very helpful and saves me from going through all the trouble that you went through to no avail. : < My guy does have a couple raised scales, but they're in the feather follicle area. I may dip his legs just to ease my mind that I tried something.
So does this look like scaly leg mites to you? The scales aren't damaged anyplace except near the feather follicles. I'm trying to pinpoint the cause so that I can medicate appropriately.
We don't spray any pesticides or weed killers on yard, so I doubt it. I see similar damage on the guy in pics that free ranges and on roos in pens. I don't see it on our Wyandotte/Sumatra mix that doesn't have feathered legs and I don't see it on our hens whether they are feathered or clean...
A few of our lightly feathered marans roosters have ugly scales and bumps on their outer toe/shank with missing feathers and bumps. Pictures included. The scales on the rest of the leg seem fine and our vet checked a skin sample for mites and found nothing. Is this a common issue on feathered...
Do you think that using a splash with a lot of leakage in a pairing with a BCM instead of a splash with little leakage could cause the leakage in the blue?
For example:
LOL! I thought the exact SAME thing and posted something about chicken DNA testing on BYC. I was told that chicken DNA testing didn't exist. : < It's those chipmunks that get you thinking. And I have NO, idea about Peach sickle. What did she look like as a chick?
Oh she is beautiful too! Do you breed her to a blue copper roo? And do her blue offspring have dark spots? I've no idea why some would be uniform and others not, but I saw the blotches referred to as "leakage" someplace.
Here is the only pic that I could find of our splotchy blue and her baby...
