I'm sorry but he doesn't have the wyandotte shape. Wyandottes are birds of curves. His back is too long. His tail from the back should be the shape of an inverted V (teepee shaped). He'll be pretty backyard eye candy, though.
Some wyandottes have been cross bred with Plymouth Rocks and/or other single comb breeds. The rose comb is dominate but if you have parents who carry the recessive single comb gene it will pop up from time to time. If you want to sell wyandotte chicks in the future, do not use the second bird...
I should get my act together making a web and facebook page, lol. My wyandottes are a work in progress. Not too many people are working with the blacks. My hens are great, the cock birds need work. I need to increase their bulk. It'll take me a couple of years, but I'm patient. My new pet...
They're English bantams so they are much larger than the American ones. Hopefully, with a couple of years of linebreeding, I can bring their up their size using my LF blacks. A friend of mine has partridge and silver penciled. I love the lacing on the hens.
Sorry to take so long to post. I acquired some LF whites from Duane Urch this year, he has really nice birds. I'm picking up some chocolate and chocolate-recessive blacks this weekend at a show from a friend. I'm using the whites to add bulk to my blacks. The chocolates are for kicks and...
Mmm, credit is not a bad thing! There's always craigslist in case it's a cockerel. I have 75 cockerels rolling around. Ugh. This weekend I'm culling the few blues that are showing a bit of rust. Darn recessive coloring... I'm taking them to a swap and hanging a sign on their pen that says...
I know hatcheries guarantee a certain percentage as the correct sex. If you received extras; they're probably cockerels. I like having a rooster running with the hens even if it's out of breeding season for me. It keeps the peace in the flock and the hens like having a rooster watching over...
You may have a cockerel. The combs on the pullets will still be yellow. When their juvenile feathers have come in, the cockerels will start developing more prominent wattles than the pullets. Sharp sickle feathers will be obvious on the cockerels when they molt again for adult feathers.
That would be after they molt their juvenile feathers. You'll know before then. By the age of six weeks, the cockerels will have pink combs. The pullets will have yellow combs.
Jerry Foley has started chocolate wyandotte bantams available. I'm going to have to call them this week to pick up some. I have wanted chocolates so badly!!! I am beyond excited about this! Chocolate wyandottes... . Maybe some of his partridge to go with them... I am so weak.
You can add a black blr if it has good type. You're adding the mahogany gene to the gold. The gold color shouldn't deepen too much. The black blr doesn't carry a blue gene.
I'm hatching around 50 chicks a week right now. Those that aren't presold are going into my brooders. I'm glad I started hatching in January. I have a decent sized juvenile flock to cull from for next year's breeders and still have POL to sell in June.
