Wondering if any polish breeders can tell me if there is absolute no no for breeding? Anything like what colours to avoid breeding together or mom to son, dad to daughter etc.
And if there are any suggestions on what colours to breed together would be great too. Thanks
Great thanks for the info. Do you know what to look for when breeding, like out of a pair who would have the dominant gene and what colours would be more likely to be prominent?
This is the first time being on this site on my phone
All I keep getting is adds popping up so I can't see anything.
I have been trying to search a forum for 30 mins and haven't gotten anywhere because of all the adds.
The new site is extremely NOT user friendly and unfortunately I am...
So my little backwards dude made it. I had to help it a bit, I peeled back some of it's shell and let it do the rest. Since it's hatched it hasn't shut up LOL. He had one heck of a story to tell and is telling it over and over.
There doesn't seem to be any overt issues with him so far, so lets...
No progress yet, at least I don't think so, I've been at work all night.
The egg is a nice normal shape and it's a Silkie.
I will check when I get home and I'll take a pic and post it if it's still isn't hatched.
I have a chick that has pipped out the wrong end...... It's still active and peeping inside.
What do I do?
Should I leave it and see what happens or do I have to help it at some point?
Just to be clear...... everyone is saying "lockdown". Is that the last 3 days? And if so what should I know about lockdown?
I know your probably all shaking your heads thinking "what an idiot" Hahaha.
Sorry for the stupid question but this is a major learning curve.
Hi, I'm a first time hatcher as well....... this is a little nerve racking!!!!
My question is..... I understand that in the last 3 days you are to up the humidity, what if your not 100% sure when the last three are?
I can tell you for a fact.....they DO kill chickens!!! We are battling one right now.
It has killed two of our hens( one of which was Frosty, my footless girl that I nursed back to health and was thriving) she had no chance against him.
Then the other night it got our little rooster.
We thought...
New Feet for Frosty!!!!
Soooo I'm having a new issue with Frosty and looking for suggestions..........
Frosty has developed a very sensitive stump, she favors it a lot and doesn't run(yes she can run) around as much anymore.
I have bandaged it so there is some padding there and that helps a...

This is our coop we made out of a TV cabinet. We made it for our chicks once they were to big to be in the house but too small to be with the rest of the flock.
They are now with the flock so we are going to use this as our Sugar Shack in the spring for a little romance...
Thanks chooks4life,
We did get rid of the rooster quite awhile back for other reasons but I know he was very rough with the hens. I just wasn't sure what to do then, I thought I should just let nature do it's thing.
It's been probably 6 months and most of the hens are doing very well however...
Since you are talking about feather issues can anyone tell me if or when feathers will grow back after the rooster has had his way too many times?
I have a leghorn who's back is completely bare and with winter coming that worries me.
Chicken farmer, if it is from the hen being bred too much what can you do to help the hens get their feathers back. I have several hens that have that problem. They didn't grow back after their molt. Now I'm worried cause they are still bare backed.
