    Tevye's Corner

Hello all. I logged in to do may annual profile maintenance and thought I would drop a line. I updated my options since I am not on here very often anymore - TBH, not spending much time in front of the computer at all anymore - always doing something IRL - so all is good :) Last summer, we lost...

The sink is just a plastic sink from Lowes. I have a hose that runs to the faucet that is hooked up and useful in the summer, then we blow it out in the winter so it doesn't freeze. In the winter incoming water is using a bucket from our yardcock. The drain on the basin just empties out into...

I put my ducks in last night, or rather I should say they put themselves in while I secured the fort. They are such good ducks. I figured they haven't gotten much screen time lately so I would capture their good behavior :D They get the run of their kennel and house at night. The kennel...

I use POE (Power over Ethernet) cameras. Unless you want to change batteries all the time, you have to run at least a power cable to a camera, so with POE, I run just one cable to the camera, and it is more secure and doesn't load my wireless space with lots of data (so I can use it for surfing...

    Tevye's Corner

Hello all. I've been a member of this site for a while and when I was a "young dad" everything was new and exciting and I did quite a bit of posting. Now everything is "been there, done that", but still can be exciting, I'm just not so prone to post everything. This had lead to a long lapse...

Feasibility of owning ducks at our pond

My ducks would go in 9 times out of 10 with my auto door which had a last call feature: the door closed then 5 minutes later it would open for one minute then close again. They would mull around until the door closed, then go in when it opened again. This means that they would be in on time 0%...

Auto Duck/Chicken Door - Best ones for the $$

Thanks for the call out @Miss Lydia sorry I don't respond as quickly these days. (I check BYC every once in a while). I am also in Montana. I have a heat lamp on a thermal switch that comes on at 0 and goes off at 10F. The ducks don't really appreciate it until it is below -10. Snow is a...

Duckling Diaries: the Life and Times of a Welshie Trio

In this case, I think they were oblivious, but whenever we pick him up and give him a "good talking to", the girls chase him around cackling at him in a way that sounds like mocking laughter to us. :gig Seems to bother him more than being picked up... "Kaine got in trouble, Kaine got in...

Duckling Diaries: the Life and Times of a Welshie Trio

Since this doesn't have anything to do with Bantie, Welsh Harlequins, Trios or in fact anything, I am deciding to post it here... :lau This is not one of my proud moments as a dux steward, but sometimes things just happen naturally even if they aren't the best way to deal with things...

    1900 Gallons of ducky bliss

Ok, I had a chance to go out and snap a couple pics of the new ramp so here is the ramp. And here is the "ducky dome" it is housed in: The stacked PVC is left over from an old project (over a year ago) but the ducks like hiding under it in the day, so for now it stays. You can see the other...

    1900 Gallons of ducky bliss

I got mine at Kmart, but Walmart/Target/Amazon have them all the time for around $100 every year. It is the 12' x 30" model. They are sold under various names but are all the same. They get much more expensive when you get just a little bigger. Intex is the "name brand" but I think mine is a...

    1900 Gallons of ducky bliss

Yup, Any water splashing out of the pool is less likely to puddle :) Also, I was too lazy to "surface" the ground, so it is additional protection against small rocks and such. I figure no one will be walking on the floor of the pool, so getting the ground perfect isn't as important.

    1900 Gallons of ducky bliss

We are now on our fifth year with this pool. I am currently trying to get a sand filter and UV clarifier plumbed in. The ramp has deteriorated and we've decided that the pool is a great idea. They like it because it's big. We like it because it is low maintenance compared to kiddie pools and...

Looks like you all had a little June party here on Banty's thread...Hi all :frow Of course, I came late to the party... :idunno We just had a little visit from a rodent friend. Guess he wanted a drink of water. Says something about nature when the duck poop pool is considered a good source...
