Ah, yes, I know there is a split in the community about satin vs silkie and satins are not considered silkies at the judging table. I apologize because I just refer to them as silkies since the breeder is holding them to the SOP of silkie while she works on her project feather patterns.
These are all a variety of silkies.
The breeder I got my eggs off of labeled each egg, but once they started hatching I lost track! I have one more listed possibility than I have of chicks since one died about three days after hatching. She had a chipmuck pattern. I do know who my paint is...
One of the chicks passed away. I don't know what happened. Everyone was eating and drinking normally. I was was washing out the water every two days... No bedding for eating, it's puppy pee pads still. I hate when this happens.
I found it fascinating that the first chick who hatched (and basically exploded out of her shell with a completely clean interior) was drinking out of my sponge water within 12 hours. My other chicks seemed fine with waiting 36 hours or so.
Another gallon of raspberries was picked. I still have bumble bees buzzing around looking for flowers in there too. I should be getting raspberries for another few weeks yet. Oddly, I have a bed of strawberries quite large, that is half one variety and half another. half of it died completely...
We have one very spray leg chick whom I have bandaid-ed her legs together. The wry neck is doing much better. Still a little lumbering and head down more than the others but no more tumbles and walking more upright.
Limburger, pepper jack, and cambert are quitters. Camberts aircell is very large but they all look like they quit around the same time. Still some veins present but zero movement, some dead space in the egg. So all in all, with my very first hatch AND making my own incubator, no auto turner, we...
Two more- one was cheddar in the smallest egg and a very small chick but she seems healthy
Not sure about the other but she's a big girl. Looks like she has wry neck. I gave her nutri drench and I guess we will see.
