HELP! Chick thinks I’m it’s mom

I have a bunch of chicks right now in different stages/ages all over the place, I think I may have to do this but my partner may question my sanity at that point considering everything we have going on. I thought about taking one from the ones my broody hen hatched a week ago but she is such a...

HELP! Chick thinks I’m it’s mom

Ok so maybe this sounds crazy but I swear this chick thinks I’m is mommy! I’ve incubated lots of chicks before and this is a first for me. I had incubated 6 eggs and unfortunately out of all 6 I only had 1 make it. I had to assist this one in hatching and the moment it was out of the shell it’s...

    Breed and sex help please!

1,4,5,6 in my opinion like like cockerels. Mostly Due to their hackles, but their combs as well And the color of the Wyandotte I think 1) golden laced cockerel. Indicators for me are the hackles, color, and defined comb 2. Easter egger-pullet 3. Easter egger (looks similar to a cinnamon queen...

Please tell me I got some pullets?

That’s good! Usually the tail feathers are the easiest indicator for me but really the only for sure way to know is that good ol cockadoodledoo! lol

    The mysterious duck eggs

Nope. I haven’t had any recent eggs since my last post though. And I recently got three female Cayugas who are now in lock down inside the duck run/coop so nothing is able to get in there either. One thought/question I had was if it were possible my mallards were stealing them from somewhere...

Topic of the Week - Incubating eggs

In my experience that humidity range has worked great for me. I’ve incubated chicks at 70% the whole incubation period due to a difficult incubator, and saw a much lower success rate at that high of humidity as opposed to the 50-55% range. You definitely want to get it to to the 70-75% range...

Topic of the Week - Incubating eggs

Warning to all. Do not buy the “Devopet” incubator. Its fans are. Mounted right under the lid with very little head space so I’ve have two chicks so far, right after hatching, stick their little foot up into the fan and dang near cut their toes off on the fan blades. Horrible design. Their...

Topic of the Week - Hatching Eggs

Is she laying on the egg or have you pulled it inside? You have to candel the egg with a small light and you’ll be able to see fetal development in about a week if she is laying on the egg or incubating inside

    The mysterious duck eggs

I have been thinking the same thing but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a wild duck where I live but know that doesn’t mean it can’t happen. I decided to try and incubate the last one I found in the duck house and it’s developing which was exciting!

All blue egg shells with rich amber yolks

My whiting true blue lays large blue eggs that are for sure store quality. And they are productive layers for being colored layers. That and they are beautiful birds. I’d look into those for sure

Help my sister was checking my las eggs that didn't hatch and droped one drawing blood

I would try to use corn starch on the places it’s bleeding from and try and very carefully assist it, making sure if the umbilical cord is still attached you don’t rip it from the chick.
