"if I wrap her in a towel and place her up right."
I am currently caring for 2 rescued jumbo pekins that had acute severe niacin deficiency. They have swim therapy in my bath 3 or 4 times each day and when I lift them out to get dry, they very quickly settle down on my lap and get on with...
Keep messaging and letting us know how you are getting along!
By the way, check your local thrift store for newborn tee shirts. Ducklings don't mind second hand any more than they mind branded and new. They don't like any tee shirts! Here are 3 I looked after last year. They didn't have Angel...
Here's more information on Angel wing. As your duckling is 8 weeks it will need more than "a few days binding" hence me recommending checking after a week. Ignore any suggestions it is caused by too much protein. That is a duck keepers old wives tale (commonly but mistakenly believed). Ducks...
Thank you for caring for this muscovy and getting it a ducky companion
The muscovy is developing angel wing and needs your urgent intervention. Forget about keratin sheaths!! The wings need binding into the right anatomical position flat against the body. Buy Vetwrap or similar stretchy crepe...
Basically, if your ducklings are old enough to go out foraging, they don't need grit. I have only ever used chick grit for ducklings in the brooder getting more to eat than crumbles. Once they are in the garden, they find their own grit in the soil
If Tractor Supply does not have Durvet High level Vit B compound, order it from Amazon. We give it orally to ducks (it's injected when used for cattle) we give 1ml orally every day until at least 1 week after symptoms resolve
Its actually quite dangerous syringing fluid into the bill as it can...
@KathiQuacks
I don't think that snapping turtles bite ducks' bellies very often. They go for dangly bits -- legs, and bills when a duck goes after something in the water to eat.
Your wound looks more like a snag on something sharp.
Cleaning it and spraying with Vetericyn is all that is...
I should mention, @mojavesdream, that a mobility impaired duck needs to be separated by a temporary panel or screen from other ducks, as other ducks will attack it. Mine went into the garden twice a day for water therapy in a large tub. He could move his legs enough to swim up and down. I could...
I'm making a new lighter weight ducky wheelchair in the hopes that a jumbo pekin duckling that I rescued will use it and move in it.
You might also try cutting leg holes in a fabric tote and carrying your duckling round in that. I cannot get the jumbo pekin to put it's legs through the...
I suspect that your duckling has a neurological problem. You might try vitamin B particularly Vit B3, niacin, therapy, in addition to the supplements you have in the feed. Can you get Durvet high level Vitamin B compound from your feed store or Amazon? We give it orally, 1ml every day until at...
Aa you are in the UK, try Asda, Tesco or Sainsbury pharmacy. I think you should be aware that people say you can't give too much niacin because it is water soluble and excreted by the kidneys. But you can overload tge kidneys. So beware and try and give the right dose with extra to cover losses...
I use nutritional yeast added to the crumbles of all ducklings: 1 tablespoon per cup of crumbles, as a preventative supplement. The cheapest source of nutritional yeast that I have found is Walmart own brand. I change to brewers yeast for laying females as I can buy it in bulk from Josh's Frogs...
Definitely hold the butt end facing out until it's wrapped in an old towel. I have two 4-5 week old probable jumbo pekin rescued ducklings. They are enormous but only just starting to feather. I pick them up with two hands one on each side of the body, holding in their winglets and taking their...
I don't think it is a vitamin B3 problem as you are already supplementing her feed with N vitamins. But Vit B3 deficiency issues are reversed very quickly with high level vitamin B complex. Generally within a week if treated straight away
The white poop is urates in watery poop which is the ducky equivalent of urine. When the duck is eating the urates get mixed in with poop and are less obvious
Your little June bug might have a neurological problem. But it sounds like you already have enough Vit B3, niacin, in the diet. All you can do is give her love and supportive therapy--keep offering small amounts of treats (peas, mealworms, crumbles) to eat, and sips of fluids from small cups...
I would leave her on Mazuri, addnutritionsl yeast and urgently start Durvet high level vit B compound from Amazon if it is not available locally. Some ducklings/ducks need more niacin than in the duck pellets/crumbles.
What are you feeding her? My first thought is niacin deficiency which is common in ducks on chick starter crumbles without a high vit B supplement. You need durvet high level vit B compound. It's a liquid that we give orally to ducks. At 2 weeks old, your duck can have 1ml a day soaked into a...
After 2x forty minute swim sessions with me ensuring it swam laps for most of the time (the ducklings had two short rest breaks where I let them float for a few minutes) I don't think I am imagining a slight improvement. The duck was standing taller when preening while wet, and didn't notice me...
