Here might be some inspiration to get you started naming the girls. I have Spicy "Ginger" (orange), Zesty "Lemon" (yellow), "Ivy" Brown (green), Morning "Glory" (white), and two older chickens named Rose and Beth (no bands necessary). Enjoy those babies. Finding them that particular day was no...
True about instincts keeping animals alive, but I had the perfect place for the trellis, so I gave it very little thought after that decision. There are many different kinds of Jasmine. Some are safe and others are not. Regretfully, not am not at all knowledgeable about the different types, so I...
I purchased a metal trellis, placed it outside of one wall of our chicken run, and planted night blooming jasmine. I had read that this plant is not good for chickens, so I always keep it trimmed so that the chickens cannot get to it. It has grown quite fast, has a lovely fragrance, and offers...
Do y'all remember office pools during football season? How many additional chickens do you think pollipaza will end up getting within the year? LOL! Definitely going to add to the flock. This BYC member already loves those funny chickens. :love
I have 6 golden sex links, and they all look so much alike of course. There are some very subtle differences, but one of them has a lot more white on her than the others. Her name is Glory, which is short for Morning Glory. She might be my favorite to look at just because her coloring is...
I will thank my Heavenly Father for this great day.
I will make and portion out a Pioneer Woman freeze-ahead recipe.
I will take steps to prepare a guest room in my home for visitors.
I have 6 laying hens and three readied nesting boxes, of which only one ever gets used. The hens will go up and down the ramp waiting for the occupant of that one beloved box to finish up and come down to the run. It's so funny to watch. It reminds me of when my six siblings and I had to share...
That's a lovely coop. I agree that there needs to be something on the ramp so the girls can easily get to their roosting bar. I like the clear plexiglass behind the roosting area. That was a good idea--speaking from experience. Ugh. That's the most difficult area to keep clean in our coop.
Raccoons are on my NEVER IN MY YARD list. Animal control will bring and set up a trap for your unwanted guest and take it out to the woods to let it go if you call them. I consider them gross and mean. One was pooping in a golf course pool, while I was managing it (the pool), so you know who had...
When I use DE, I only put a little in their dustbath and the floor of their coop. I have never applied it directly on the chickens. Could the direct application have caused this?
