Post a pic of the chicks. I doubt the chick is White at all especially when neither of the parents are showing any white on them. Actual White and BS are very easy to tell apart even at hatch. Turn the chick over and spread the wing, the base of the flight feathers will be a light purple...
Here is a hen that has been broody for a couple of weeks. All four hens in that pen contributed to her clutch, I have no idea how many eggs she has but when hens flatten out like this they can cover more eggs and keep them all warm.
Until she decides it is time to start incubating in earnest, she will not heat up. I have a hen right now that is still adding eggs to her clutch but she spends most of the day sitting on the eggs, I think she is protecting them until she decides she has enough eggs to start brooding. When I...
In the end she will be fine. I have had them scalped so bad I had to sew the cap back up the neck to the forehead. She will scab and grow new skin and feathers and likely be hard to even notice that it happened.
In stead of injecting her daily with the Baytril you can put 1.0ml in the tube feeding mixture. Don't give the Baytril more than five days or she could get a yeast infection.
We trim talons on the very young to keep them from damaging each other. We will have many chicks in the brooders and when they are excited at feeding time or when getting treats they will jump on each others backs, they also do this while jockeying for their special roost space in the evening...
I am not sure where to start, you are not the typical pea-momma and it is kind of heart-warming, but, yes you are 'hovering' a bit much. You are doing a great job but worrying yourself a bit too much. First, turn the volume off. Assisted hatches causes problems especially when you move in too...
I have a similar situation now as well. One of my free range hens was attacked and lost both her tail feathers and all the flights from one wing. She can not get up to roost so she is in a breeding pen where she is safe to sleep on the ground until the feathers grow back. Birds ability to let...
