Ah, goulash.
That takes me back to my childhood. And I continue to make it today. I try to replicate mom's recipe by always using shell macaroni, green peppers and a little extra pepper. Along with the meat and tomato sauce.
Sometimes I'll change it up and use elbows like school did.
Can't go...
I found a thread here from 2010. There seemed to be a lot of quail people here back then. As most of my Google searches produce older threads from here several pages long.
General consensus was leave it be. The people who had helped a chick hatch ended up losing them anyway. And some folks were...
I threw a few partial bottle out about a year ago. Sesame oil, fish sauce, rice wine vinegar. It had probably been ten years since I used any them :(
For all I know they were still good, but I just wasn't using them anymore.
Nothing tonight either. I made a big lunch.
But I did cook up some burger with taco seasoning for future use. Maybe I'll make tacos for lunch tomorrow.
Interesting. I would have thought he would have broken out more by now. Started unzipping or something. But you can see its beak through the hole breathing and I'm guessing yelling, Get me the heck out of here.
I ordered some more eggs last night after a brief discussion with the seller. These will be traveling a different way to me. :fl 48 eggs. Yowzah. My incubator doesn't even hold 48 eggs. Looks like I'll be choosing some to eat.
Meanwhile, pretty slow day today.
I grabbed an egg to candle about...
And here's hoping for at least eight more by tomorrow!
But I'm still going to order another batch.
I'm going to order from a different source and have them shipped to my sister. That means only one USPS facility will be the same.
Cause something isn't right with all these broken and scrambled...
Thanks. I wasn't sure if it was some undeveloped tailfeather or something.
But it's gone already :)
I hope it was OK to separate a chick from it's egg, too. It was dragging the egg around behind it with some kind of brown spindly thread thing. Umbilical? Do birds have those? I noticed another...
Number 4 has this white thing hanging off the side of its rump. I didn't want to risk taking him out and losing heat, or pulling on it when I should be ignoring it...
So, any ideas? It doesn't seem to be bothering it, but the one pecks at it once in a while. Of course, they're pecking at...
I finally caught one in the act! Number three. I watched him hatch start to finish and took video along the way. If anyone is interested I can post them.
I put the two others in the brooder
It's hard work hatching!
And here's number 3 a couple hours after breaking free.
Now that I know...
She was still in there this morning so far.
She's bound to start looking for food soon.
Meanwhile...
Batch 2
Two were hatched this morning! I figured today or tomorrow. Depending on how you count days.
One is very active, the other wants to be active but can't quite get his legs under him...
I haven't seen my girl go into the enclosed part of the hutch all day. Or eat either. But she was right in front of one of the feeding ports, maybe an inch away, as if looking in that direction.
I'm hoping she learns quick. Without a group of birds walking around and interacting she has to...
