Buff Orpington x Easter Egger Genders? - 6 Day Old Chicks

The funny thing is if the pullets are on my lap he'll gladly hop up and join them, but runs anytime I try to pet. I let him just hang out for a bit while I just talk sweet to him, still not having it, lol (teenage boys🙄 )

Buff Orpington x Easter Egger Genders? - 6 Day Old Chicks

One on my 11 week old cockerels his starting to worry me a bit. He gets upset when the two pullets come to me for attention when I'm in the run. He hasn't done anything about it, yet . . . but he's clearly sizing me up.

Buff Orpington x Easter Egger Genders? - 6 Day Old Chicks

I actually like the bigger/heavier chickens, so I'm learning, they're less of a flight risk . .pun intended. I have a EE that's much smaller than her hatch mates and she's a flyer/climber . . . I swear (not really) I'll let the neighbor's cat have her one day, lol.

I have a BO chick that's 4 weeks and seeing those cute chicks is making me think of keeping it, even if it's a cockerel. . . lol.

Buff Orpington x Easter Egger Genders? - 6 Day Old Chicks

With EE being mixed breeds to begin with I wouldn't think so . . .but I'm still new . . . Since you're breeding and hatching your own I'd keep records to see if any trends emerge . .males being darker . .females having more defined stripes . . . things that might take out a bit of guess work. I...

What indicators are you using to decide they're roosters? Unless they're a sex-linked or auto sexing breed it's too early to tell.

Who in your flock is your Hei Hei, the chicken from "Moana"?

I watched the movie Moana before I had chickens and "Hei Hei" was just a bit comedic relief then. Now that I have chickens . . .that chicken is so friggin' hilariously on point! Who in your flock is your Hei Hei? Mine is Kettle an 11 week old BYM cockerel that is always the first one to get...

Integration; phase one complete . . .what's next?

My thinking was it'd be easier to manage/intervene in a smaller area, but I see what you're saying. I could continue having the older chicks free ranging and younger chicks in the run for a couple of weeks until the RIR are 6 weeks (when they're larger than snack size) and I'd be more...

Integration; phase one complete . . .what's next?

Lol, I can be a pushover . . ."Oh my god they don't love it and aren't eating it in 20 mins, they'll all starve . .quick get them leftovers" lol. ETA: I'll save the chick crumbles that I still have for the younger chicks and gradually add in pellets for them. Thanks

Integration; phase one complete . . .what's next?

When I make the switch, should I do it gradually, or is all at once ok?

Integration; phase one complete . . .what's next?

Should I feed the males that I'm growing out differently? I'm switching the chicks to All Flock w Oyster Shells on the side when the RIR turn 4 weeks (in about a week), the 2 older pullets will be about 12 weeks when I make the switch.

Integration; phase one complete . . .what's next?

I got the younger chicks when I realized I had two cockerels and two pullets in my first batch. Since the RIR are straight run I'm assuming half are males, which would get me down to roughly 14 chickens. I have two side yards that are already fenced off and roughly 10x20 each. I plan to start...
