I've been working on a cross for a bit now. I've found the roosters to be stellar! they're kind of slow growing, but are usually gentle and not aggressive, but that being said there's always a chance, but it seems like the % is really low with Bielefelders. if you want to check out my work...
Okay! With the largest bird weighing in at 5.07lbs and the smallest 4
02lbs I was able to achieve a 4.4lb average at 13 weeks. (Roosters only) I retained all my hens, and the largest bielefelder rooster. I butchered the remaining 2 bielefelder roosters and they will be stock/soup birds since...
These are looking fantastic! I apologize for my recent absence; work at the country store/fruit tree nursery has been particularly busy this season. Unfortunately, this meant I had to miss the 8-week weigh-in for my Delaware Broilers, but I feel I have a good baseline for comparison nonetheless...
if you need to you can make a small mobile pen for them you can pull around on the lawn. this is how i raise out my birds they get fresh grass everyday, and I can separate by sex once the roosters stop behaving if needed. I've even seen it done with wire dog crates with the tray removed, just...
and there was peace and prosperity in the kingdom once again... lol. they're shaping up nice!! a few more days till the meatballs hit week 8 for me. theyre really packing in the food going through 50lbs a week roughly for 15 birds
not bad for an 8 week bird. some are hard to cull others are easy haha. batter the whole thing and put it in the pressure Fryer! probably a super tender little guy hahah
Thanks for your response! I wish I had your grasp of color genetics. I'm working on it slowly but surely. I understand what you're saying about black looking messy. My Bielefelder x Delaware hens are really growing on me with their lighter colored barring. The pure Bielefelder hens are so dark...
Goal is 6lbs live weight by 12 weeks. Trying to yield a 4lb carcass by 12 weeks. That way you can extend to 16 weeks to get a really nice bird before they get too tough.
Awesome! I'm located in eastern AZ in safford. I'm not able to add any birds till this fall but I'm DEFINITELY interested in birds, chicks, or hatching eggs preferably hatching eggs this October.
so far, no my male is 1.2 years old and is around 8ish pounds. super nice, really pretty but he should be more solid then he is in my opinion. he weighs as much as my Enhanced Delaware hens hahaha
The bielefelders i butchered with them were tiny and will just be broth. I'm on a quest to find beefy Bielefelders. They're supposed to be big beefy and great layers. But the hatcheries have gotten to them and they aren't anywhere near what they should be in size and lay. I'm going to try and...
