    Horses!

I will preface this with i have not read this whole thread. But after this post, i wanted to say that the many, many natural horsemanship type trainers have always graduated to some type of liberty training during their teachings. At least here in the USA. I've noticed that once again...

    Horse grooming thread

I discovered my favorite "brush" many years into horse & pony ownership. When I became fascinated w/ recycle & reuse, I used haystring to braided into many articles of tack. We had LOTS of haystring from the round hay bales we fed free choice. Anywho, I had just replaced another scrub brush...

Already partially done... Favorite brushes for Tory - double sided rubber mitt w/ nubbies, a colored dandy brush (soft) and elbow grease. Mane & tail brushed out. Favorite brush - black bristled, brown base women's hairbrush. For a while extremely hard to get, back @ Walmart & Dollar General...

Using Shredded Paper for Coop Litter - As Good As Wood Chips?

I've owned & worked w/ horses/ponies off & on most of my life. You are right. I can not imagine using shredded paper as bedding for large livestock that produces lots of urine. Pine pellets weren't " a thing" yet when we had them stalled. Honestly, I don't like pine shavings for chickens...

Off grid cabin with chickens and limited access - possible?

Here in sandhills of North Carolina, when temps drop to 32°f, the eggs freeze solid if left in nests overnight. Shoot, lately having issues w/ fridge freezing our eggs again. Seems the fridge can "move" the dials. During any heat, 2 weeks sitting outside? Gak. That's 2/3 of incubation period...

    Garden Mulch

Mulch - as Dobie lover stated. Garden mulch from your garden. Anything they can eat & scratch about. I've not had issues w/ poisonous plants, but they have access to feed 24/7 & generally get healthy veggies & fruits. I have planted chicken gardens that are just for the chickens. Garden...

Using Shredded Paper for Coop Litter - As Good As Wood Chips?

If they don't scratch or peck like chickens, you may find that the poo doesn't "auto-magically" dissappear.

Using Shredded Paper for Coop Litter - As Good As Wood Chips?

WOW! I've started chicks in the brooder (s) on shredded paper/junk mail/cardboard. Besides keeping the feeders full, I m pulling dandelions with dirt & putting in brooders. Provides natural grit. They do taste the shred, the I see them spit it out. I'm sorry yours are filling their crops...

Mixing Jersey Giants with smaller birds

I know that my Australorps preferred roosting as high as they could. When in a coop w/ open rafters that weren't wired, they chose them over the roosts. When i got wire put up, they weren't happy w/ me. 🤣

Lawn seeds I can plant that chickens won't eat?

Also, consider other native plant & fruit trees/shrubs. Then mulch the run w/ wood mulch & other natural materials. Your run will then provide snacks & shade. It will look better & be healthier. The DLM will "digest" any poop. Here are 2 posts did recently. Many ideas & options. - Post in...

I would love to know what's going on. This is 3rd time in a week, my phone has said error - refresh page. I do & then it will post, but part of my post is missing. I'm not sure what else I'd written... about my current BBS chicks.

    Nick's Ameraucanas

Hi Nicks_Chicks! Dont know if you already know this, if so, sorry i repeated it. To keep your Ameraucana pure, you don't want to put your Lavenders with blue or splash. And once you get going on your lavenders, you don't want to keep any produced blacks from them in your blues, since they...

    The AMERAUCANA thread

. Do you do just pairs? When eggs are hatched from pairs do you only hatch 4-6 eggs (or a few more if laying daily) at a time from the pair? Right now, from awkward stage 6 week old, it looks like I have 9 cockerels. I'm hoping not, will be trying to get some individual pics to better see...
