Move the chicks into the adult coop at night, when all the chickens are sleepy. Put away their chick coop, out of sight.
The next evening, they might get lost looking for the old coop. As said here, guide them into the adult coop. You may have to do this a few times, but they will learn pretty...
Sorry if I seem to have derailed the thread - the Easter Egg chicken thing is interesting, before I had planned to hatch some Araucana roosters from those fertile blue eggs. Then when those roosters had matured, have them mate with my Hy-Line red sex link chickens (like Clover, pictured with the...
Confusing indeed!
Online I always read about "Easter Eggers", "Americaunas", and the Buff Orpingtons (what about other coloured Orpintons?). I have a book about chickens and mentions the Orpington, Aracauna, and naught about Easter Egger. But that article does make sense to me, e.g...
Remember that bullies can change over time. Not even six months ago my head hen was a ruthless savage bully - now she is fairly timid and passive, and likely down a few pegs in the pecking order. She is still a solid egg-layer so I am glad I kept her.

Most of my hens are HyLine red sex link hybrid chickens, and despite all having red earlobes I get creamy coloured eggs, white eggs...
Thank you! I don't think anyone is pecking her - if anything SHE has been pecking at other chooks to defend her baby chicks! She pecks, chases them! I've never seen her so aggressive! Often she is quite timid, in fact she was a victim of severe bullying in the past.
Yes so I guess the white...
Is the Ameraucana a hybrid breed from an Araucana chicken?
I have only ever heard the names "Easter Egger" and Ameraucana chickens on this website forum, and social media sites like Reddit where a lot of users ask if their chicken bought from Tractor Supply is a hen or rooster.
Nowhere in...
Annie is a very pretty chicken!
My Clover is now 1.5 years old as well, and I noticed she started growing white patches amongst her feathers on her head. She is healthy as well, but I don't know why it has happened all of a sudden.
I managed to get some photos of the spots yesterday.
You can see here that the "spots" are actually white patches on parts of the feathers on the back top of her head.
Clover was NOT impressed with me taking pictures of those white spots! I think this is the moodiest I have ever seen...
