i have had my BSL pullets for 3 days..they are about 3 months old (guessing)... and one of them is aggressive, bossy, whatever you want to call it! acts like a roo but not and she's the little one so i'm thinking she has little girl syndrome and is going to be the bully! first time with this...
don't know about the sussex..but my RIRs started about 21 wks old but yours may lay sooner or later...this website is awesome and the ppl here are great..good luck with your flock!!!
i agree on them being about 3 months..after getting all the info about the breed and remembering that my other hens combs were more developed at 4 to 5 months i was thinking more along the lines of 3 months as well..i've been without chickens for 7 months so things are starting to come to me again!
thanks for helping me out..after looking at several pics of black sex links i agree that's what i have...now to find more info on the breed! again thanks alot:D
recieved these yesterday..thinking they are about 4 1\\2 to 5 months old...torn between australorps and jersey giant..the gold is throwing me off..one has more gold than the other, the other has more green sheen to it with little gold..blk legs and the bottoms of their feet are grayish..pretty...

Dec 1st I can stuff him Going to have him mouth open into a stalking mode as if to pounce on my poor duck. A friendly reminder of how beauty can become the beast.
will be waiting for a pic when you have it done....the same can be said about women as well ( yes i said it and i'm a woman!!)
my wellie has discovered his voice as well..he hasn't fallin over but he does plant his feet just right, puffs out his chest, sticks his neck out a few times (i guess to get it just right) gets a look in his eye like he's concentrating then lets her rip!!! still sounds like broken horn but...

I'm sure it's been answered before, but can we go over how to count the comb points again. Our Wellie roos all have that broad 1st section, then points, then that final part (not sure what you call it).
This handsome guy has a nice comb. How many points would you count?
Thanks...

he came from MPC...his toes were fine...then when he started to grow so fast his middle toes shot out like weeds and started to get crooked...since he has gotten bigger they have straightend out some...they don't seem to bother him..he's a high stepper when he walks...i hope he gets big...
o.k. this is the best i could do while my camera decided to work!
the rest of the pics were too dark...his tail feathers are missing because the girls thought they tasted good...but now that he is bigger they don't mess with him anymore!
i guess i'm the odd ball. my eggs have been much easier to peel compared to store bought...i have only 1 hen laying right now so when i get about 4 or 5 i hard boil them, so i'm guessing they are still considered "fresh". they peel in big chunks and sometimes half the shell will come off in one...

that's exactly how mine is...i have 8 pullets that are the same age as Crooks ( his feet are so big his middle toes are crooked) their not wellies though and he makes them look tiny..he's so sweet...he runs from my 6 month RIR hen, which he towers over! i will try to get my camera...
i only have sand in my coop...my girls love it, i love it..everybodys happy..easy to clean and no smell!!!! when it gets low just put more in it..done!
i have a welsummer roo that is 16 weeks old...he is taller and almost as wide as my RIR roo who is 6 months old (and has gone through the "manly" change)...is my welsummer going to be abnormally huge or do they get that big?
