I just returned home so I have not seen her since Friday morning. She seems fine otherwise. She laid an egg either late yesterday or today. I threw some sunflower seeds and she ran in with the other chickens and ate them. Her color seems good, no eye or nose discharge. I guess I’ll keep an eye...
Thank you. She is very sweet and I already got one rooster (my mislabeled red sex link) out of the 4 chicks I got this spring. I know jersey giants take longer to develop so I wanted to make sure.
I got him from a feed store. While I watched my other pullets more closely for signs of roo I didn’t really pay attention to this one because I thought it was a sex link. I have mostly heritage breeds and never had a sex link so while it developed differently I didn’t think much of it. But even...

Thank you for the advice. I was able to get Penicillin injectable from Tractor Supply. I can’t say she is out of the woods yet but definitely improving every day. On Saturday morning she was gurgling a little and I thought that was it but after a second dose it went away. She seems to be eating...
I have had her isolated for over 12 hours and she has pooped twice. I don’t believe she has laid since she molted. Her comb and waddles are nice and red and she always squats even when she is not laying but not squatting now. I don’t have an avian vet. Is there an antibiotic I can buy at a farm...
I have a 4 year old buff Orpington. Yesterday I noticed she was puffed up and standing in a corner. This morning she was again puffed up and standing in the corner of the coop staring at the wall. She is very lethargic. I noticed today that her abdomen is swollen and hard. I was thinking maybe...
My Welsummer is almost 28 weeks. My 3 other hens the same age as her have been laying for weeks. My older hens have started molting this week, is it possible she will not lay until the spring?
About 1.5 weeks ago I treated with Corid, I am noticing some bloody tissue in the droppings again. Should I start all over with the full dose or should I start the follow up dosing? I didn’t know about the follow up dosing when I did the treatment.
Thank you I decided to go ahead and treat. After the 5 days should I give them a supplement? If the rooster booster vitamins, electrolytes, and probiotic mix any good?
I have been noticing pieces of red tissue in my 7-8 week old chicks dropping for about a week. I find around 1-2 per day (I have 4 chicks). Otherwise all other droppings are normal they are eating well, active and growing well. I have them on medicated feed, they were off of the medicated for...
I found another dropping today with some red tissue in it. Otherwise all the chicks look healthy and eating well. I am picking up a bottle of Corid today just to have on hand since it’s a holiday weekend. At what point should I treat, I have read they can become ill and die very quickly from...
I moved my 4 chicks in with my 4 adult hens 2 weeks ago. They have a crate set up in the run that the hens can’t get into. My one hen has been chasing them but not causing injury, mostly chasing with an occasional feather plucking. The pullets are now around 7-8 weeks. The past 2 nights I went...
Thank you. I have seen less since putting them back on medicated. Will watch for the next few days and see if it continues. The chicks eat their food in an area the hens don’t go. I am feeding the hens unmedicated starter grower. The chicks can’t reach their feeder but eat a little of it off the...
I have been periodically finding what looks like red tissue in my chicks that are around 7-8 weeks old poop. Otherwise all other poops look normal and the chicks look healthy and eating and growing well. I have them on medicated feed. They were off of it for almost a week about a week ago but...
I can’t really determine a clear pecking order with my 4 hens but I would say she is in the bottom half if not the lowest. A lot of times I think she is worse to them when I am around. Towards people she is generally the friendliest.
