Thank goodness. I was hoping it was just an injury. I've sprayed her legs once every twelve hours with Vetericyn to clean out the wound and help it heal up. Thanks for your input!
While I was outside earlier I noticed one of my girls has a missing scale from her foot/leg. It must have just come off because it was a little bloody. Her legs have been looking a little dry lately. I can't tell if she has mites (none of the 5 have ever had them) or just dry skin.
The floor of...
My sweetest golden sexlink likes to cuddle/nap/preen on my bed up by my pillows. Sometimes she'll like to preen my hair and when she started to do that today I looked back and she pecked me in my left eye. I applied and ice pack for over 30 minutes and waited for the major pain to stop until I...
These two little fellas (I think they're males) have been stopping by my house at least once a day for the past week or two. Lately I'll feed them. They're very friendly and cute. My year old chickens don't know how they feel about them yet. It ranges from curiosity to "mom get those things out...
We've got bag balm. I'll try some on her. She doesn't seem to mind..she's an avid sunbather and loves to stretch out her neck feathers and get alittle sun. Now that she's alitle bald Id imagine she could get sunburnt if she spends too much time sunning herself. Any suggestions for chicken sunscreen?
She doesn't have a beard but not that you mention is- my easter egger did get a portion of her beard and cheek feathers pecked off. All my girls free range for most of the day and when they are in the coop they have ample room. 5 girls in a 18x10 foot space that's got lots of toys and things to...
My 13 month old black australorp has always been at the bottom of the pecking order. When she was younger I realized she must have a problem with her eyesight (her pecks were never "straight on" to where the food was). The last couple weeks I've noticed her neck feathers were thinning out and I...
Running the wire through a pipe is a great idea. There isn't a harbor freight near me but we have a lot of Home Depots. I was also thinking of giving "rope lights" a try but wouldn't know how to keep them in the rafters. Stapling with a staple gun (like my current lights) would only rip through...
@LPeaslee wow your coop is impressive!!! That system looks amazing but I was thinking of something more simple like a lamp/dim spot light attached to a small solar panel.
This is what I have in there now and unfortunately the rats/mice chewed through the wires...
Sorry LPeaslee but I couldn't find what you're talking about..went to your profile and looked at your pics but didn't see...if you could post a link to where to go I'd really appreciate it!!
Hey guys,
I recently discovered why my solar panel Christmas lights I have inside my coop for my girls (for alittle extra light once it gets dark so they can see a little bit inside their coop once it gets dark) were being eaten by the mice and rats that come in at night to steal their food ...
Thanks @BayBay Peepers and @Eggcessive I really appreciated your feedback. That does make sense that the poor little things would start flailing right before they pass. I agree with Baybay, it felt like the longest time ever when he was flapping around and struggling but in hindsight it must...
Hi guys,
I lost my first rooster about a month ago after he aspirated fluids into his lungs and got pneumonia. Poor guy had it for alittle over a week. I was giving him antibiotic injections into his chest and he was also receiving medicine by mouth to help beak down and absorb whatever was in...
@Percheron chick I realized that was an "if you feed them fruits and veggies" after I posted my reply. They get the occasional berries/lettuce/apples. Watermelon when it's hot to keep hydrated. But nowr thay it's cold its been more corn/seeds/etc to help them keep the weight up
@Percheron chick I do the freeze dried meal worms and everyone loves those what's a good fruit or veggie for protein for them? Thanks for your tips everyone
