    Molting egg strike?

...more feathers after today. All of the hens are at least 3-1/2 years old - the white hen and rooster are 4-1/2 and a couple might be a year older than that. No poopy butt or egg bound behavior, everyone is eating. Should I just keep assuming this is from the heat and molting? Thanks Shannon

Duck can’t swallow, water won’t go down, comes out mouth and nose

I tried to get a picture, by pulling her tongue forward there’s a bit of mucus like white stuff and I can see the little valve thing opening and closing, I don’t see an obvious obstruction. At first I was thinking egg bound, but now it seems like the issue has to be something in the throat/crop?

Chicken with bald spot and maybe missing half her comb

Update: I noticed she’s missing them all under her chin area as well… only my one Lavender Orpington (23wks) has shown any sort of aggression but it’s mostly just puffing up and running and her but she’ll still go by her. Should I put the orpington in a kennel in the run during the day or wait...

Chicken with bald spot and maybe missing half her comb

I wouldn't worry as an injury to the comb will bleed a lot, so obviously that hasn't happened. When a hen goes into moult, or feels a bit down for whatever reason, for example mite infestation, her comb will lose a lot of colour and shrink a little.

Chicken with bald spot and maybe missing half her comb

...I checked the coop cam later that night and she was sleeping in the nesting box so I decided to check on her today in case she may be egg bound or something. She laid her egg like normal and seems completely fine and then I realized the bald spot and comb. There’s no blood and hasn’t been. It...

Rooster was high stepping, now passed away

...It happens, but as my granddaughter say, “well that is tough, but now we can add chicks. I have had chickens for decades, never had an egg bound chicken or any disease. Not that I don’t believe people on here that do, but people tend to post about trouble, which in turn makes it look like...

    Egg binding?

Welcome To BYC I'm sorry for your losses, if you lose another, it would be a very good idea to investigate further to find out what may be causing the deaths so frequently. Your state lab can do a necropsy and give you a report of their findings or if you are up to it, you can do your own...

    Egg binding?

We have had 2 chickens die unexpectedly in the past week. One of them was laying very large eggs and we think she got egg bound. (We didn't know who was laying what at this point) The other one was laying very normal sized eggs. We thought she might have been going broody because she was...

Sick Hen. No appetite, Green poop? (Pictures) start corid?

...bully and always has something to say to somebody, so it was obvious she’s not feeling well right away. Was hoping she was just a little egg bound, but no results after a 25 min epsom salt soak. Saw a bit of snotty looking blood in the bath water, so considering starting Corid. Her crop is...

PLEASE HELP. IS SHE EGG BOUND? IS IT SOMETHING ELSE?

I really dont know whats going on with my chicken. 1) What type of bird, age, a nd weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others) Leghorn, 26-20 weeks, feels normal. 2) What is the behavior, exactly? She's been sitting down, tail down, and doesn't really eat or...

Trouble Breathing! Help me please! :)

Her comb and face color look very bad. Can you have her drink some water with electrolytes or some Gatorade? If you think that she might be egg bound, a human calcium tablet or Tums cut in half could be given orally to help pass an egg?

Sudden lameness in an adult hen

Hi, what breed is she? What has she been eating? I ask because there's a possibility she's suffering from a vitamin deficiency. I'd give her some B-Complex. She could have half of one adult tablet daily for several days/weeks. I'd also pick up some Poultry Cell for her/their water and give...

Sudden lameness in an adult hen

...so brought her in to do a thorough check. She has had Bumblefoot that is being treated, but has not gotten worse. I wondered if she was egg bound so gave her an Epsom soak, dried her off and kept her inside in the pet carrier for the night. While being dried off, she was standing and putting...

    Please Help - 3y Brahma Hen w/Prolapsed Vent – First-Timer Seeking Advice

Day 3 - Ana's Prolapse Miss Ana laid an egg this morning! It was hard-shelled, instead of the soft eggs that got us into this mess -- so that's got to be a good thing. I'm so grateful she wasn't bound 🙏🏼 I've been keeping up with daily: - doses of calcium citrate + D3 - warm soaks in epsom -...

    Explosive poop after egg-bound exam

Its not uncommon for there to be poop when an examination is done. Usually that is not a necessary step, so I'd try avoiding an internal if possible. Give her 300mg Calcium Citrate+D3 now, then once daily for a week. Keep her hydrated and see that she's eating. When was the last...
