I got a mixed breed that is a cross from a male buff Orpington and an Easter egger. I named hime speckles. I don't understand though. Both of the parent are a golden color with the Easter egger having some grey feathers around her neck. But speckles turned out to be an all white chick except...
How long will eggs that are a week before hatching stay viable without the hen sitting on them. My silkie got off of her three eggs for about 8 hours she switched nests. I just placed her back on the original eggs but I'm worried that they won't hatch because of how long she has been off.
I'm really worried. It's supposed to get down to 55 degrees and the chicks are outside. Under a heat land and momma. Do you think they will be alright?
All of my big chickens are in a fenced in area. And the chicks would be in a fenced in area right beside them. So they can see each other very easy. We were going to take the fence down after the chicks get about 6 weeks old
I was wondering. If I have a broody and she has chicks under her how long would you wait to let her and the chicks outside. I don't want any. To get hurt or die so I'm keeping them inside in a large cardboard box. I plan to wait until they are about 2 weeks old and have some feathers.
I went and got some wheat a little bit ago. I am using a fodder system with 5 gallon buckets. I'm putting 18oz of wheat in the buckets. Does that sound like to much or do I need to add more?
Ok so here is what I was thinking. I read that chickens need to eat a third of their body weight every single day so for 12 chickens that would be 4 pounds of feed. And I also learned that when you sprout folder one pound of seed transforms to six pounds of fodder. So if I sprouted one pound of...
Oh well that disappoints me. This is the first time I used them. I order the first 6 chickens from cackle hatchery. My pet chicken was the only sight that I could get chicks that I wanted at the same time.
I'm currently waiting on 7 chicks from mypetchicken.com. One Rhode Island Red, one jersey giant, one barred rock, two Easter eggers, and two buff orpingtons. I can't wait to add them to my other 6 chickens. To have one giant mixed flock of chickens. Their supposed to hatch April 13. Has anybody...
Thank you for the help. I also have one more question. Are barley seeds more expensive than wheat seeds. And from your personal opinion which seed would you go with?
