It probably was. She was hatching from the pointy end. If you read the previous post you will see that the turner didn’t get turned off until she started piping. She never got a chance to settle properly. Oh well. I have recently started calculating survival rate to be 44%. There are 6 eggs in...
I’m not surprised she died this morning but I’m surprised that I am so utterly pissed about it. On a positive note. I came home to a new Buff Orpington that hatched all on his own on the correct side of the egg.
I definitely don’t get attached to chickens anymore. She is about 21 hours old now and still alive. She has strong lungs and a healthy chirp. She has a goofy walk that I don’t like all that much. She is uglier than snot but that’s probably because she is a silkie hybrid. She’s got patchy...
This didn’t turn out good but I learned something from this hatch. Bantams hatch early!
I did something this time around that I never ever do. I helped this chick hatch. After an investigation inside the egg and knowing what went wrong it was the right thing to do. So this was a game changer. I...
13 hours after the first pip and this is what I see:
Waiting is a breeze those first 3 weeks. Those last hours are most brutal. This chick is slow slow slow. Your mind is always racing there at the end. Luckily I do hear it chirping. The good news is that there is nothing I can do one way or...
It’s a balancing act but I found too dry is much less risk than too much humidity. As a matter of fact I have never heard of an 100% dry hatch go wrong. Just err on the side of not enough if you are not sure of the perfect balance. Less water is better in my observation.
I’ve never had a late hatch. If the egg doesn’t hatch on day on 21 I personally don’t think it will ever hatch. Others may have a late hatch experience. I have never seen it.
Hey guys. I was just checking my incubator today. I made fun of myself and thought, “I don’t know what I really expect to see.” Boy was I wrong. One of the eggs started hatching early. I’m glad I checked so I could take the turner out.
After looking on the internet I found out that bantams...
That’s not the definition of a scam. That’s normal supply and demand. These things are hard to come by. They are worth several hundred dollars. Just not to me.
The most recent edition I have found is 2015. I have seen them in the past for $59 and I thought that was high. I now know that was a really good deal. Unless you want an extremely old and irrelevant edition they cost in the hundreds of dollars.
I’m glad I found this discussion. I didn’t know a...
I’m just surprised that nobody has ever had this fantasy. The creation of super hybridized mutant sounds like an intriguing project to me. I wouldn’t do it. I just thought it was an unoriginal idea. I expected more participation.
I did buy some black Cochin bantams. They were freaking beautiful but I just can’t do the feathered leg thing. They stayed filthy several days after a rain. I can’t say they were my worst breed but they are low on my list.
