Hello folks, has anyone from Canada found a company to order bulk egg cartons from in Canada? The shipping from the USA is a little costly although they have great selection.
Thanks
Stella
I've had a few posts about my Leghorn who is behaving quite unlike the others lately, won't venture out of the coop, hasn't laid eggs in weeks, her comb is floppy and pale, and she just sits in the nest box. We noticed her bottom feathers are gone (no mites) and she shivers when we lift her out...

Thanks Pat (waving back ).
I appreciate the feedback and that you took the time to type so much detail.
Some background on my situation....I board my horse just south of Port Perry so I'm somewhat restricted in how he's being taken care of. The only board I can afford in these here...
Are leghorns not good with cooler weather? I have 4 hens, and 3 of them are absolutely fine with the colder weather we're experiencing here (40F) but the leghorn just stays put in the coop and seems to shiver when we force her outside. What's up with that?
Also, her bottom is completely bare of...
This is the first winter for my horse (with me anyway) but he has always been an outdoor horse. He's going to be 6 in January and we have some pretty cold winters here. Can anyone give me advice on what grain or roughage I should be giving him now to keep his calories up and keep him warm...
My hens did this when they first started laying. they felt like ping pong balls, a little squishy. so i started to give them free choice oyster shells and it stopped.

I was wondering if it has something to do with the colder days/nights that she won't leave the nest box? The other 3 don't seem to mind the cooler temps.

sure, i suppose any kind of oil will do...coconut oil solidifies at temps lower than 73F, creates a great barrier. but your choice...doesn't matter.

As far as we can tell, she sits in the box at night too. The others roost on their perches or huddle in the shavings...it's getting cold here now.
OK, after laying 30 days straight, she's stopped laying now 3 days in a row...the other 3 continue to lay every day and don't exhibit this nest box obsessiveness. We blocked the nest during the day, and she just sits inside the coop. On occasion she'll run outside with the others, then scoot...
I felt weird eating the eggs for the first couple of weeks. I could only hold them in my hands and marvel at them! Everyone thought I was crazy. But after a while, the novelty wore off and now I eat them every day.
Re washing them...I've read in enough reference books that if you absolutely...
Our leghorn is 6 months old and has been laying for about 7 weeks now, consistently and well. However, in the last few days/nights, she hasn't been leaving the nest box. She sits in there all the time and makes a fuss when we try to encourage her out of the box. We only have 4 chickens and...

I didn't say there was water collecting, only that they've destroyed the grass and all that's left is mud. the run is actually very well drained...it's on a slope. The area remains wet because there's no grass to soak it up and we've had rain virtually every day since May!

I'm not selling them, but I AM giving them away to friends/family, who never seem to return the cartons no matter how many times I ask! Believe it or not, I get roughly 30-35 eggs per week...that's a lot considering only my husband and I eat them.
Pat, definitely if you have some of...
When my DH built the outdoor run, he didn't believe when I said it was too small and all that nice sod he planted for the chickens would be torn up in a matter of weeks.
Well, it's all mud now, no grass is left, and we don't have the immediate space to create another run. So I was wondering...
