I recently took a FirstAid/CPR class and the instructor required us to put together an emergency manual and a firstaidkit. I was thinking it would be a good idea to have something like that for chickens (and other fowl). I of course intend on doing my own research, but here are a few...
I am making an emergency firstaidkit to have on hand for my chickens. I have been reading about "Blu-Kote" spray and thinking about adding it to my kit. What do you all think? Would you recommend Blu-Kote for wounds or is there something better? It just doesn't seem very safe; there are a lot...
...never really know how things will turn out.
I’ve had such good luck using calcium plus D3 for one of my chickens who lays soft eggs once in a while and has wound up egg bound. I truly think it saved her life one day when she had two eggs stuck. It’s a must for everyone’s chickenfirstaidkit!
What do you have on hand? When we get sick, I try to save back a pill or two for the chickenfirstaidkit.
It matters what kind of bacteria is involved in an infection. But the antibiotic with the broadest action that is commonly prescribed to people and you might have laying around is...
This is what is coming out of my favorite hen today😲. I guess I need some help. She never just lets me pick her up, but today was completely different. I have Corid in my firstaidkit for the chickens, but is that what I should use? I don’t have anything else 😕. Should I use a dewormer? What...
oh yes that’s right! i actually have some birdie booties in my firstaidkit. I got some for chickens, some for ducks and some geese too . The duck ones were too big for my fawn and white runner though. frankie is small right now and his little foot is pretty tiny. I guess I could measure it...
Thank you so very much @ChicoryBlue !!
She lay today a nice big egg!
Yes, I will look into the chickenfirstaidkit.
I already have some stuff to clean wounds because I had bumble foot on some of my hens!
Good post!
Thanks again!

Yes, these ones are totally okay. I recommend everyone has them in their chickenfirstaidkit; they’ve saved my egg bound hen for sure. I’ve recently read when they’ve come in handy for vent prolapses, too.
I personally do only supplement (the vitamin) if there is an instance of egg binding or...
Hi Everyone!!
As a fairly new chicken mom I’ve come across various bumps along the road. As these bump come along I’ve acquired a small kit of remedies (tylan, metronidazole, Vetrx) but I’m wondering what are your must haves to keep on hand at all times in case of an emergency?
I’m trying to...
...egg so I can drip wax over the crack ASAP. Ointment for an open umbilical cord. That sort of thing.
Do you keep a sort of "chicken firstaidkit"? What do you keep in it? What are some things you'd recommend a beginner or anyone with chickens always have on hand to address illness, injuries...
There are tons of threads about firstaidkits, and here are dozens to look at:
