Thank you both. Anyone else had a well developed orp that turned out to be a hen? :fl
It looks like I'll be looking for homes for two of the five 'sexed females' from this batch of chicks.
I have a 7.5 week old Green Queen (black/silver Easter Egger with muff, beard and feathered shanks) who has started to crow, and a Lavender Orpington who is looking suspiciously like a rooster...
Anyone in Massachusetts looking to add some young roosters to their flock? Healthy, happy, parasite...
I'm in North Central Mass, use sand and love it! I use washed construction sand (not sandbox sand, which compacts when wet)...I just scoop my coop and run with a kitty litter scoop, and it's done in minutes! No mess, no smell, no flies, and it drains and dries quickly after it rains. My...
That's what they say, but I don't know. I shoot everything raw and send them in the right color space, I have no complaints. I do like the nikon ttl remote flash though.
How do you store your RAW images?
I used to do some film photography, and I recently decided to get more into digital...
As an aside, the same thing happens with baby bunnies this time of year...Easter presents gone bad that end up in shelters a few months later. And dog shelters have the same issues with puppies after Christmas... dogs that were given as gifts being sent to shelters after the holidays when they...
Oh, yes! I'm a huge facebook addict! My kids think it's funny... but really, it's a great resource for us older folks who lost touch with people back before everyone had emails and cell phones!
I've reconnected with lots of wonderful people from my past. New friends are great, too!

So I just hopped on the Ideal web site and noticed that their BA's and BO's are now back-ordered until May, so if I wanted to add extras to your order, they'll be out of what I want when the Brabanters you want become available!
It's hard work being a farm dog fashionista!
No chicks yet so I don't know what kind of farm dog my poodle will be...but she'd be competing with Abby in the fashion department!
If I get chicks in late March, could I assume they'd be able to be out in the coop without heat by mid May in our area?
*My first trip away is May 13th (my son is graduating from Vanderbilt in Tennessee so we have a 4 day weekend planned...I can't believe I forgot that when planning spring...
...know if you want money up front).
Are you on facebook, by any chance? I'm addicted to facebook, but I don't check BYC as often.
Thanks, Deanne!
* Oh, crap...it just occurred to me that I have two out of state graduations this spring, and I wouldn't want to leave baby chicks with my pet...
LOL! I don't know about being psychic! Just still thinking about chickens! Are you keeping them all or will you have extras available? Did you/will you order all pullets?
So now I'm thinking about Welps, they have the biggest variety I've found. I'm so torn.... I want a brabanter from Ideal but think I'll settle for an Ancona (both white egg layers), some Wyandottes, EE's, and a Welsummer. I need really winter hardy breeds because I don't heat the coop but I...
Chickens always seem like a great idea in the spring, summer and fall. Then once winter comes...not so much! LOL! I work outside with animals as a pet sitter and complain all winter long. On a day like today, owning outside animals doesn't seem like a great plan.
