My 8month old Lightning girl is egg-bound. Today she was in the nesting box and was pushing for about ten minutes before she gave up and left the box. She still is egg bound and occasionally pushes and is active. There is an egg in there, I can see and feel it. What should I do!!!
Hey everyone! One of my standard sized pullets just laid her first egg today and I'm not sure what to call it. It's about the size of a bantam egg, so I was thinking it had no yolk, but I hollowed it out and it did have a normal sized yolk in it. I've gotten much smaller eggs before about the...
I just realized that BackyardHerds is a thing and wanted to check it out, but it seems like the site is down or something. Does anybody know about this?
Hey everyone!
Hopefully in the near future we will be building a new coop and I am trying to get ideas on some different ways to block chickens from sleeping in the nesting boxes. In our coop the nesting boxes are connected to the coop, so to access the nesting boxes they have to pass through...
Hey Everyone! It might just be me, but does anyone else like to retain all the knowledge they can on a topic that interests them? Well Anyway, I created this thread for you to post any questions you have about genetics (I might not be able to answer them, but I love learning about that stuff)...
Hey everyone!
I don't think I'll be breeding super soon, but I still had a few questions about the breeding genetics of Easter Eggers.
Ok, so I know that EE's aren't an actual recognized breed and that they are often a mix with ameraucana or araucana. When I do breed I would like that percent...
Hi! I'm looking to add a pullet or two to my flock. I'm looking specifically for bantam polish pullets. Does anyone breed chickens or know where I could get any in southern California?
We hatched some chicks a little bit ago and now they are two months old and I'm curious about their gender. Their dad was some kind of black EE and most of their parents are backyard mixes + two Rode Island Reds. I'd love to hear your thoughts!
First up this is Licorice:
I'm thinking male...
So I went to check the nesting boxes this morning and found this in it:
Yes, it's definitely an egg, I checked. We have some two month old chicks, but that's still way to young to lay and they haven't been in the coop yet. The rest of our hens are at least two years old, and even if one of the...
During the Fall season, I tend to do more baking and cooking because of the wonderful vibes this season gives. So this thread started with a question I had, and then turned into me being curious about a lot of things. Please answer these questions to the best of your ability. I am excited to...
Hi everyone, I love my flock and am hoping to work with chickens in the future. I was wondering though, is there such thing as a chicken trainer? Like, maybe someone who gets hired to train someone's chickens to be nice, or even train them to do tricks and stuff. Thanks for the feedback!
