This is Panzer von Gott and he is the newest addition to our little family. He is a registered Great Dane and he enjoys lounging and slobbering. He is very smart and just energetic enough. He is a joy to have around and is very very lovable. We hope to get lots more pictures posted soon.
I found that the best deterrent is good fencing and solid doors. Make sure you have an apron around the run and house too so they can't dig under. I also have live traps baited for them. Only caught the neighbors cat once.
We tried the the Night Guard Solar lights a few months ago and the raccoons broke in three inches from where they were mounted. We tried different positions and they still roamed all around them.
This is a 4x8 tractor we built recently. We are working on a house to go on top so they can stay the night in there instead of going back to the egg shack every night. They all spent the day in there when they were babies but now we can keep four to eight in there comfortably.
I agree with Yinepu. If the predators are use to people and lights, these night guards won't have a very strong effect on them. I am sure the product works well in the deep woods, but around here, not so well. Lead at 1100 fps should work on them.
I bought four Nite Guards and placed them at the specified height to ward off raccoons and other small predators. That night, the raccoons pulled chicks out six inches to a foot from where the lights were mounted. They had to be looking directly at the light to get to the chicks. Not very...
That's a good question. I haven't palpated it that much because it's still tender but I will surely update when I get a chance to. The wound is less than a week old so I will give it a couple more weeks.

I prefer dark meat so I am about half out of luck. I guess that one leg will be swell-developed. Uno lost his at the hip too. Very clean, didn't bleed much. Our little wounded warriors.
Earlier I said we eat what we kill and I want to clarify that a little. We have coyotes and foxes around here but I wouldn't eat either of those if I killed one. Haven't heard of anyone who would. I guess there is a line somewhere between foxes, coyotes, raccoons, nutria rats, capybaras, and...

That is what my husband calls a righteous kill. Completely justified. We have lost a few in the past week but it's because of our own mistakes. This new coop had a couple of weaknesses we didn't see. It just helped us to fix them.

Oh thank you, I totally misunderstood, probably because I never hear of people who will eat raccoon! Possum, but not coon. Whats it like?
Tastes like possum but cuter...

Texas doesn't mind, as long as you don't set them free in a movie theater or in the mall.
Man,..... Texas sure takes the fun outa trapped coons, don't they?
Mississippi Squirrel Revival!!!
While we did relocate this one, we will on occasion kill and butcher them for meat. The pelt prices are minimal around here. This raccoon was a male so he had no family that required his presence. Male raccoons don't raise the babies. They are more social than they are territorial. The...

We relocated it near the river. We are in severe drought so I figure the closer to the water the better. He will have to cross two rivers to get back here. We have water buckets around the property so the wild animals can have something to drink. Just don't want them in our chicken...
