    Stats Project... need your help!

Thanks guys! The project is pretty open-ended on what we can do, so I should be able to pull something out of this. Anyone else, please feel free to participate until Monday the 10th. Thanks!

    Are these SQ?

There's definitely great potential! The top hen looks quite nice in the that photo, and the second hen has a tad too much white a whipped tail... but great start!!!

    Stats Project... need your help!

Hello everyone, long time no talk! I hope you are all doing well! I have a favor to ask of you all, and if you could help I would greatly appreciate it! In my statistics class, our current project is to obtain data of any situation and analyze the data... a few different ways. ANY topic is...

    Hock Injury

Hm, but she slips if she tries to walk. I'm afraid shell splay her leg on top of the injury.

Can I hear from people that have "lived" with a CRD in their flock

Quote: If antibiotics aren't working it's probably Infectious Bronchitis. Birds are left in a carrier state for 6 months and recovery takes 2-3 weeks. Good news is, most birds develop immunity to it after the initial exposure. I let it run through my flock. I had a few sneezes for a day...

Can I hear from people that have "lived" with a CRD in their flock

Oh no, I hope it's not Coryza. That's a nasty disease. You'd know it though; birds with IC smell horrible, like rotting flesh. It's extremely difficult to get rid of, and your best and most ethical approach is to cull everything that gets sick. VetRx works well. Give 2.5 cc per pound...

Diagnosis Found • Lab Testing Birds • New Developments

Any diagnosis yet? Could be Coryza. Does she smell terrible? That's a telltale sign. I once cared for a bird with coryza. He was otherwise fit as a fiddle but his throat was filled with cheesy goup. He had trouble eating and would have suffocated if I hadn't cleaned his throat regularly...

    Hock Injury

I have a young Modern Game pullet with a hock injury. Unfortunately, I was gone all weekend when she managed to hurt herself, so I have no idea how she did it or how long she's been hurt, but she's clearly uncomfortable. Her hock is hot to touch. She can barely put any weight on it before her...

combs that turn blue in parts sometimes

Small blue portions are normal, large portions are cause for alarm. The comb is an extremity, like your fingers, and when it's cold outside oftentimes the blood cools before it reaches the tips. Older birds get it too, probably just something that comes with age.

Young hen fluffed, sick acting, no other apparent symptoms

Oh, and the mites definitely won't help. They will slowly weaken her. Paleness goes hand-in-hand with nearly every disease.

Young hen fluffed, sick acting, no other apparent symptoms

Possibly Marek's Disease. Unfortunately their symptoms fit any number of diseases. Try dark leafy greens (like spinach), apple cider vinegar, and hypericum. The ACV needs to be mixed in the water (1-2 tbsp per gallon) and the hypericum requires a special dilution. Check my site for the...

    Full of air under skin!

Possibly a ruptured air sac. It will heal on its own, but it's uncomfortable for the bird. Make a small hole in the skin to release the air and take away the pressure. She'll keep inflating till the sac heals.

Learned New Skill Today...Cauterizing a Bleeding Comb

Flour! Always works. I once dubbed a bird that squirted blood like a geyser. Flour and pressure stopped it. Quick thinking though! Good job.

    Blackhead Med

Quote: OOOH. Okay, thanks for clarifying. I think the wild turkeys might have gave it to her. At that time the turkeys were practically inside my chicken coops. I think that's just too coincidental.

    Blackhead Med

Thanks guys! That sounds totally familiar! I'm going to order some to keep on hand. So get this though, I know it's spread by cecal worms but the hen didn't have a single parasite! She's baffled my vet. Supposedly, in very rare cases it can bypass the worm stage, according to my vet...

neighbor extremely upset -- looking for solutions

The novelty will wear off in a while and the dog will get bored. But she shouldn't be whining over her dog. Kudos to you for being so nice though.

getting ready for a show please help! (cochin and polish!)

Oxiclean. It's gritty and lifts stains! It won't hurt their feathers either. Hydrogen peroxide dims stains too, and it's definitely safe for chickens.

Help, hen was stuck in the door all day UPDATE #53doing well

Yeah, work the leg, it's numb and damaged. Try to increase blood flow and force it back into the normal position. It may hurt her, but it should help. Chicken physical therapy! I had a young chick fall and get stuck upside down behind a nest box in scorching heat. He was dehydrated...

    is there such a chicken............

Nothing beats a game. They're super hardy. But they're a handful! Wyandottes, d'Anvers, d'Uccles, and Sebright are all very susceptible to Marek's Disease.
