My suggestions is, put the nest boxes inside of the cope and close the area where they were removed from. Anything outside of the cope can and will be destroyed, eventually. Hope this helps.
GREAT pictures! I'm so very glad we don't have bears in our county. We have fox, wild turkeys, opossum, skunks, wild ducks in winter, wild geese, one jack rabbit (all I've seen) AND neighbors dogs. There has been reports of Bob Cats and Mountain Lions nearer to the hill areas but none here!!
Oh, so sorry for your flock loss. I know how you must feel, I had neighbors dogs tear into my free range chickens. Young layers, easy going. Had to put a couple down they were so torn up. Even my bantams that were in their run was affected from hearing and seeing what was going on. Lost two...
I had my chickens outside of their run as usual when, my son called me to come quickly. The neighbors 2 hunting dogs were attacking and killing my chickens. A few ran and hid while others ran in confusion. My son had one of the dogs in his sights but did not shoot as he had not checked with...
I'm no expert by far but I think I would put Peroxide on the wound several times a day. Then blot it dry with a clean tissue or paper towel. Then apply an antibiotic ointment. When the wound stops oozing/draining then keep using a antibiotic cream until healed. Then apply Aloe Vera Jew a...
I suggest perhaps use Aloe Vera gel on the wound several times a day. One of my cats was possibly chased by a predator one night and she ran under our garage door for safety. The door ripped off a large piece of her hid, it was oozing and looked very painful. It was about a 3x4 inch piece...
Well, with my hens, an old tire without the rim makes a good dust bath, an occasional egg laid in one. They like a thin board stuck into the wire at a corner, good outdoor roosting. Other than chasing a bug around the outdoor run they are dead heads when it comes to play. Dust bath, roost and...
I've run out of options of having a rooster for my hens. These past few years the roosters have turned mean and attacked me and my husband. Some we have even raised from chicks and have given them lots of attention. Anywhere from a large rooster to bantam's. Do we not have enough hens to...
My chickens actually WAIT for me to tuck them back into their house for the night. If it gets dark before I make the rounds to them they usually have already headed in. I use treats in their coup for a nightly roundup. Works like a charm. I too have a straggler that waits until the last...
Hethya Pro16 Eggs incubators
I've put this incubator on my Christmas wish list. Would be great to hatch out my own chicks without having my poor Bantam sit for 21 days or just buying from a feed store. Looking forward to some great chicks and the fun of hatching them!
I've have some really sweet roosters and some really bad roosters. My last bad rooster was a Bantam. I raised him from a chick. He was getting a little testie with one of my hens so I put my foot between them. Bad idea. He attacked, kinda of shredding my pants legs. I put him in insulation...
Push comes to shove, if there's just a few why not bundle them in something and keep them on your lap or in bed near you. There must be protective device as not to soil you or your bed/furniture. When I had baby bunnies born on the wire by dumb mother not having them in the padded nest box...
Has anyone heard about Chicken Scratch Fever? Seems I remember something about it years ago. Can't be too careful when it comes to your health.
I bought an old hen some years back. She was fat! Was told that she was not laying much. I decided to put her in my crock pot. I found bunches of...
We saw 2 hugh nest of eggs under a storage building after it was moved. Chickens love to hid their nest. If you have hens that do lay eggs most every day in the summer. Either you have roosters instead of hens or something is getting the eggs before you get to them or they are hiding their nest.
I'm not sure what happened to your hen but I do know that Raccoons eat the insides of animals, they require moisture in order to eat their food. Intestines has that moisture.
We had a stray cat that started staying at our barn, I fed it regularly. Some months later I found it along the side of...
One more thing for thought. When my husband made new doors for the hens new large fenced yard I noticed there wasn't a block of wood on the outside floor of the door. I could just image a critter getting it's paw or claw under the drop down door, lifting it and getting in with the hens. You...
You have my sincere symphony. I lost most of my flock to a neighbors hunting dogs (young ones) By the time we realized our free range chickens were being slaughter by them it was mostly too late. My banties were in their enclosure so they were safe but I still lost two due to the stress of...
