Gotcha! I was told and sold a chick with a red dot on her beak and was told that was a RIR trait... Not sure but, that's what I meant by that. Thanks again.
She's not a Rhode Island Red because there was no red dot on her beak. I got a Rhode Island Red in addition to her and they look quite different. I will research "Production Red" I am not familiar with that... Thanks!
Can anyone tell wheat breed my chick is? She is 3 weeks old, so it may be too soon to tell for sure. Was listed as a Buff Orphington, but her coloring has become questionable....
It may be too soon to tell, but I thought this was a Buff Orphington, but I am no so sure anymore because her feathers look more reddish than buff... Got her at a feed store. Can anyone tell what she may be?
We had a hard time removing the metal clip as well. Ours came from a feed store where they mark the Pullets. We watched a youtube video on how to remove it and she does it so quickly, but ours seemed to be deeper into the wing and stuck. We got some antibiotic gel and got the area wet and...
Well, my chicks are not laying yet, but I try to read ahead on how to do things so I know when the times comes. Got some good pointers from reading this thread. I hope mine are easy to teach when the time comes, but it's good to know it's a common enough topic that training is likely going to...
This is a great thread. I was wondering the same thing... is it worth the cost to roof the run and would the chickens be happier or ? I am in Texas- we have mild winters but scorching summers and I am going to use sand as litter so after reading your replies- we are for sure roofing the run...
That's what I figured... I just ordered the vertical ones on amazon- so I will give that a go when they arrive. My chicks are 2 weeks old. I will try the flat ones again when they are bigger. Thanks.
I got the side mount nipples because I read they don't leak... but my chicks are really struggling to hit the actual nipple part- there is so much plastic around it that I think the ones that hang from the bottom would have been a better choice. I started them on the nipples last night, and...
Hi but my chickens aren't out of the brooder yet, the other person's chickens chased the snake. Yes, we are very close to Garland! I also hope our yard stays snake and rat free, we are working on it.
Sorry you lost so many chicks! I do not look forward to the day one of our goes missing or...
Well, maybe only isolate her for short periods and if she does it again isolate her for a little longer? I would try to stop that pecking if it's excessive and not just natural establishment of the order. Hopefully you will get more replies and ideas. I love this forum!
From what I have read, and I am no expert, but I have read a lot! It is recommended to separate the bully and then when you return her to the flock she should be a little more calm. Take it or leave it, but that's what I would try if they were mine.
Yeah, that's what we were thinking... Thank you for your input. Luckily we have a place he can go live since we can't have Roosters, but I sure wanted to keep all of my chick-a-dees.
