    Stubborn Brother

He put the chicks and ducklings out in our storage room in a kiddie pool. He doesn't know it but I put the brood lamp over them for the night, They have plenty of room to move away from it if they get too hot. He lost 3 chicks this morning after they got wet from the waterer. He used to brood...

    Stubborn Brother

Yes he is older. Back when his boys were in 4H my sister-in-law went to some classes about raising chickens but he wouldn't go and the boys did raise and show some birds. Now he thinks he knows all there is about raising chickens but he won't listen to anyone. I admit that I don't but that is...

    Stubborn Brother

My brother just got some day old chicks and ducklings and he refuses to use a brood lamp. He thinks he knows everything about chickens but he is constantly having them die before they mature. I afford to let him use my brood lamp and his reply was "NAH it is warm enough for them". During the day...

    Let's see repurposed coops/nesting boxes

I will take pics as I build. I think this will be a very good coop for them. I plan on putting a tin roof on instead of plywood. It will be cheaper and I am thinking of using Deer Netting for the fence of the run instead of hardware cloth. About $100.00 cheaper

    Let's see repurposed coops/nesting boxes

I am in the process of building a coop out of old pallets I got from TSC. The one here lets me have all the pallets I want for nothing. Right now I am removing the bottom slats to use to fill the gaps between the top slats. Will use the 2 X 4 runners as support and to hang nesting boxes...

    Chicken snakes

I have been researching this myself since we lost a hen yesterday to a snake. So far it looks like the best way to keep snakes out is to cover all opening with hardware cloth with 1/4" - 1/2" holes. I have gone to several sites and this is a common theme on all of them. Seems if we use anything...

    What is a sapphire gem?

I found them at TSC and where they get them from Hoover Hatchery. Not to high a price for rare chickens

    ing about my duckling

I am really enjoying them. I just came in from giving them feed and water. I also am taking care of my brothers birds, he has 23 chickens, I let them out of the coop and feed them. They have cleaned the pen of any grass so we will have to move it.

    ing about my duckling

My brother had some ducks ad I really enjoyed them. Right now my babied are in a 4' X 8' X 2' Brood Box. They just turned 2 weeks old. They were hatched on June 18th.I am going to build a 12' X 12' coop for them to be in at night and probably about a 50' X 50' run if not larger, if I have the...

No I didn't. This is why I joined BYC to learn. How old should they be before I start aging vitamins and supplements to their water? Thank You

    ing about my duckling

I have a White Pekin Duckling that is 5 days old. He has a tuft of hair sticking out from the back of her head and I was wondering it is a crested duck.

    Did I waste my money?

Cedar is toxic to chickens. Every article I have read states so. Also you check the Hatcheries websites and all say do not use cedar shavings because they are toxic to chickens.

Anybody has experience with idealpoultry.com ?

I just received my order from Ideal Poultry 2 days ago. I ordered chicks and ducklings. 1 duckling died the first night then I had 4 chicks die last night. I called them and they are going to replace them for no charge, not getting a Rouen duckling because they had their last hatching for the...
