New to the Michigan thread, look forward to seeing what is going on with everyone's flocks. We do not have any chickens right now, coyotes cleaned us out last fall but we have pea fowl that are doing great. We had our 1st pea chicks hatch out this year, we have 4 pea chicks that were hatched out...
I have 4 pea chicks for sale, hatched out 4th of July 2022, $50 each. They were wormed at two weeks of age. Sex is hard to determine at this age. Northwest Michigan Baldwin area.
We have two pea hens and so far 9 eggs. They haven’t began sitting on them yet but Victoria laid her 6th egg last night so hopefully she will sit soon!
Our birds free range so from experience we no longer get too cuddly with them. If your birds free range and you get too friendly they lose that flight instinct they need to survive. If they are not free range the more time you spend with them the friendlier they will be!
Thanks! Can’t stand to lose any babies! I wish they all had good endings like Lazarus. We have peafowl also and are hoping to have our 1st peachicks this year! Fingers crossed!
Meet Lazarus my miracle chicken! This poor little guy started off with the worst birthday ever! 1st he was kicked out of his nest as soon as he was born, I was leaving for work so I asked Squire to keep an eye on him to make sure one of the hens took care of him. I came home from work and...
Thank you! There names are Red, white and blue! They should have a large number of chicks soon, I have seen around 6 or 7 so far and they still have a large number of eggs they are setting on. I was really surprised that they were all so broody, they just hatched out themselves last fall!
Here are a few pictures of blue, I have 3 sisters brooding together in 1 of the pictures, blue is the center hen. As you can see from the different pictures, she changes colors from day to day.
The 1st chick of the year has hatched. No idea how many we will get this year, normally I just have 1 hen that is broody but her daughters from last year are sitting on a hoard of eggs and the 1st one has arrived. Dad and Grandma aren’t too happy right now because I have locked them out of the...
I would isolate the sick one and try giving the little one some sugar water for needed energy and gently wipe the butt with a wet warm cloth to get it cleaned up. Make sure it stays warm!
We tried not to move them the 1st day they started hatching but the chicks were falling out of the nest box to an area that was to far for them to get back into the nest with Mom so day two we moved chicks, Mom and remaining eggs over to the other coop. Our brooding hens are now in areas where...
Welcome! I am pretty new to the sight myself but I am really enjoying it! We usually leave our chickens in the coop for at least a week to train them to go back to that spot. We let ours out every morning to let them free range, then lock them in every night. Unfortunately we are not getting any...
We moved ours because like you we were concerned for the already hatched chicks, Mom was very upset with us but she sat on the remaining eggs that we moved with her and continued to hatch them out. Help this helped!
Don’t know the exact breed but it could be a bantam, we have banti’s and they usually make excellent brood hens.
A bantam is any small variety of fowl, especially chickens. Most large chicken breeds have a bantam counterpart, sometimes referred to as a miniature. Miniatures are usually one-fifth...
