In our experience, a fox will leave a kill if a dog is let out. They come back for it later on if it isn't removed, which I did for both of the larger birds. We never saw a feather pile for the legbar hen so there's a small chance she holed up in a tree. I'm about to go out and look for her...
Two more losses.
Gertrude, my lovely speckled layer, and one of the legbars. Couldn't tell from below the roost bars but I believe it was Dream as she wandered off a lot. I'm devastated. Took the batteries out of the auto door, they will be locked in until the run is built.
Fox left Gertie but...
I love turtles. My mom and I rescued one who had a leg deformity, one foot was a flipper like a sea turtle. We named it swimmy and it swam away SO fast when we released it in the lake. One of my favorite childhood memories.
Fox attack. It got Misty Mountains. :(
We are adding a run to the big coop and will no longer free range our birds.
I am setting as many Misty eggs as I can find from the last two weeks. We just gave away so many eggs so there are only...9? And I will set the other greens as well just in case.
Proud mama. She didn't want me removing the unhatched eggs so they may still hatch.

She's a mother again! A beautiful zombie chick, and a marans cross drying off underneath. I did not spend much time inspecting her other eggs but there are two other zombie eggs pip/unzipping. I imagine tomorrow...
Yes Navy (in the run) has 7 eggs now and she will be getting no more. Marshmallow(in the run) will not be getting eggs as it's her first time being broody. Poppy(free ranger) returned to the nest and gathered all of the wooden eggs under her, Delft(free ranger) is back ranging with the flock...
Dealing with a double nest destruction this week with the free rangers, my broody hen was beaten up and dragged off her nest, so I gave her remaining eggs to the other broody in the nest below hers, she was also treated the same. Who did this? The roosters? Other hens? We're in a cold snap so...
I will be making the integration pen with a potential broody in mind when it is warm enough to build. I also have a rabbit hutch to turn into an external nest box that will be able to be used for a broody as well. Google is saying bad weather can trigger nest destruction for chickens and we have...
On Tuesday, Delfts nest was destroyed, her feathers pulled out and half of her eggs destroyed. She was cuddling under Cowspots for comfort. I gave her remaining eggs to broody Poppy who I figured was too large for a jealous hen to attack.
Just now checking, her nest is also destroyed. I gave her...
@TOMTE You are more than welcome to come get chicks from meeeeeee. Delft and Navy are due at the end of the month, I gave them eggs March 3rd.
I will also be starting zombie eggs soon, I have some people wanting to buy chicks!
