    I think I would keep an eye on those toes and make sure they don't get worse It may be this particular bird needs more b vitamin than the others. It would not hurt to get some b vit supplement and add it to the water. It's one of the things I keep in my poultry medicine chest, just in case....

    This is my 15 yo hen "Everest". She was also a hatchery chick (Americana) from Murray's Hatchery named her that because she had white on top, like the mountain!? Sorry for bad quality picture.

    I have a hen that is now 15 years old. And she is matriarch and still very active flock member. I dont see 5 years old as over the hill. Too many roosters are disruptive to a peaceful barnyard, and can make hens miserable!

    You will have to choose. One or the other. Jack has accepted defeat, and Wade is not going to stop. Either that or build a whole new secluded coop and run for one rooster and some hens so they both have a flock.

    I would say no extra heet needed. Mom will keep them warm Just make sure the brooding box area is not drafty, and also that unfrozen water is always avaliable. Good Luck!
