My matriarch has recently started laying again, after her molt. But her laying is not yet regular. Is this normal? She has the squits, but otherwise is her normal (noisy) matriarchal self. She's also squatting, and ai think she may have encouraged the cockerel to escape his pen lol.
Every time...
Seen the vet, she was euthanized ... peritonitis.
I still wish to know, how much yolk can I feed a sick bird, and any recommendations for multivitamins!
I lost a hen suddenly last week, and her hatch mate was a bit subdued. But over the last couple of days she has not appeared to eat or drink, so brought her in today and I thought she'd given up. But after I offered her egg yolk she seems a little better. Have yet to speak to the vet, but is...
Just an update ... Things did not go well. Little bro did not want him back, so he is in the house with me till he can be rehomed.
It's been nice getting to know him, and him getting used to me, which I hope will stand him in good stead for any future family.
Thank you all for your thoughts! Guess I may still ve some early mornings then. I'll see what the vet says, and it'll be slowly reintroducing them. Much as I would prefer he be the dominant one, I think he's the more submissive one. But I guess time will tell. Thank you all again.
It hasn't been majorly cold here over the last month, and that side of the house has been unheated because I know that don't like it very warm (to be fair, neither do I.)
I heard and felt a crack when I picked him up to remove him from the girls pen to put him back in his own pen. (Don't know...
My rooster has been in a cage in my bathroom for 4 weeks.
Can I just put him back in his pen (after we see the vet tomorrow) as he is one of two roosters in that pen, or is it still put him in after lights out?
(Never had to deal with this situation before)
Thank you in advance.
Update: I finally spoke to the vet. He said it probably isn't broken (since he was stood balancing to preen) but to keep him in the bathroom (crate in the wet room) for another week. If he doesn't improve then he'll need to see someone.

Thank you. I thought that would be a likely scenario.
Knowing the difference is why I wanted to see the vet. That, and I don't have the capability to euthanize him myself.
I didn't know about shock.
It was a simple capture, but he panicked when I was opening the door to his pen. He tries not to put weight on it, and he is happy in and of himself, and eating and drinking well.
Thank you for the response.
Connected but separate ... we had an escapee rooster, which is why we may have fertile eggs, and in the process of returning him to his pen, I think I broke his 'hip'. Does anyone know if this injury would be repairable? He's been on confinement in my bathroom in a cage (per vet advice) for 4...
What is the time limit for keeping 'fertile eggs' before they need to be put in to hatch?

I have absolutely no clue. She has some similarities to marans I've seen, but people on here have said she's not a maran. I just call her a 'backyard mix'. 😊
They had multiple treatments from the vet, but nothing fixed the. I think he said my rooster had something like meningitis, and my hen had leukaemia. Since they were my first chickens it was hard, but I'd rather they were out of pain than keep taking them for shots.
Hope you had a great...
