Hello. I have a duck that shows signs of botulism poisoning. I have 3 ducks and she is the only one with symptoms. She has spells where she can't hold her head up and I found her two days ago literally laying on her head with her head and neck folded under her body. She has had three of...
I had 3 Khaki Campbell ducks. About 6 months ago, their egg production significantly dropped off. They had been laying for about 9 months at the time. Instead of 3 eggs a day, they dropped to 1 or 2 every day. One of them continued laying just about every day. I thought I knew which one...
I was reading yesterday that roosters will watch and give audible warnings when they spot a hawk so everybody can duck (no pun intended) for cover. Will drakes do this too?
Okay, since you all have ducks having poop in your nest boxes may not seem atypical. Ducks are dirty birds (but I love mine dearly). Sometimes it soils the eggs. Sometimes it doesn't. And for the record, I do wash my eggs, which I know is a debatable subject.... but it's just a necessary thing...
Hi, I'm live in north FL and have khaki Campbell ducks. I got them in Dec 2010 as ducklings via mail order. I had read about how prolific they are as egg layers compared to chickens in Backwoods Home Magazine. The eggs are the size of extra large chicken eggs and I've been really pleased...
I have read pros and cons on force moulting. I decided against it because I read that they can die when you force moulted them. I figured I'd rather have fewer eggs for awhile while they took their natural course in moulting. Any thoughts?
My ducks absolutely love chopped tomatoes fresh from the garden. There second choice is an overripe cucumber that's nice an juicy. I step on it and break it apart and my 3 ducks go crazy over it. They also love lizards but they have to catch those on their own!
I use a 50 gallon black plastic livestock tub with a ramp for my ducks to get into it. It's about 14 inches deep. We have tried 2-3 different kinds of filters to try and circulate and keep the water clean. It seems to get funkier in the summer heat than in the fall, winter, spring seasons...
Posted earlier about the loss of one of my Khaki Campbell ducks 2 day ago. I mail ordered them in December 2010 and they arrived in a box about the size of a shoe via the USPS. We had spent the fall building a house for them using a photo from Backyard Chickens. They have been such a joy...
I posted this in another area and then found this area. So I apologize for the duplication. I lost one of my 3 pet Khaki Campbell hens this week and life in my backyard is just not right with only 2 ducks. I am looking to buy a hen a year or less old and will consider a duckling as long as...
