I have two male Cayuga ducks-Gary and Floyd. They are a year old and now Floyd will not stop biting. When he bites, Gary will actually nip at his feathers as if telling him to cut it out. I have tried picking him up and snuggling him, nudging him with my foot and just telling him to cut it out...
I have 4 silkies-a white, a black and 2 blues. My black silkie is a hen for sure....sweetest little fluff ball with barely an comb or wattles. The grays look to both be roos. One is crowing and the other seems to look identical in regards to tail feathers and a red tint to the comb and wattles...
Choices would be between 3 EEs, barred rock, 2 RIR, speckled sussex, and a wyandotte. We also had a darker brown egg last Tuesday. (They just started laying....mostly curious about the pretty speckled one)
I have 2 hens that I know are laying, and do so every day. Tuesday we had a third egg (darker brown, not pinky brown like the usual egg) and now there hasn't been a 3rd egg since. What gives?
What on earth is my hen's problem??? I have 1 Easter Egger that laid her first egg on Tuesday and 2 Rhode Island Reds that are CONSTANTLY clucking the most obnoxious whiny cluck. The other chickens just seem to steer clear of them and none of the others are doing it to the amount these two are...
Alright, I know I shouldn't over-think it and they'll lay eggs whether I am prepared for it or not, but well, I'd rather they lay their eggs in the coop, not under a bush somewhere where I won't find them. Lol! My 8 "big girls" (I have a second group that is a month younger) will be 20 weeks old...
How rare are these? Where can you find them? Are they bantam or large birds? I looooove the dark chocolate colored eggs I saw online that come from these hens!
1. One Cayuga has angel wing. I have already tried resolving the issue by taping it, but a few hours later it is ALWAYS off and I can't seem to get it wrapped around the legs and still allowing walking. How old is too old to continue treating this?
2. At what age do ducks typically begin to...
My sweet little silkie, Rue, won't go into the coop.
Last week I had a "city friend" and her children over....and her 4 year old little girl trapped her under a metal bowl that was in the coop on "time out".....well, 5 hours later in 98* weather, I found her still under the bowl. Thankfully...
11 or 12 weeks old.....it really doesn't matter what they are, I am just suspecting roosters and thought I would get your opinions. :-)
I have a black and a white silkie as well....both are very-VERY-fluffy, especially their tails and "pom pom" heads. They are also the underdogs of the flock...
I have 3 bell pepper plants......1 in being chewed on, with each little tiny pepper being eaten before it gets bigger than my thumbnail, the middle plant is fine but without fruit and the 3rd has a fairly large pepper on it already that is blemish-free.
What on earth is eating the first plant...
I am curious as to how much food you would think I would go through for my 20 feathered friends.
We have 9 full size hens, 8 of which are 13 weeks old, 1 that is 9 weeks old. Then, we have 9 bantams that are also 9 weeks old. Our 2 ducks are 9 weeks as well.
Exact breeds: 13 Weekers-3 EEs...
I am going to post this over in a chicken board as well, but I am curious as to how much food you would think I would go through for my 20 feathered friends.
We have 9 full size hens, 8 of which are 13 weeks old, 1 that is 9 weeks old. Then, we have 9 bantams that are also 9 weeks old. Our 2...
Our 8 hens sleep on the wall "ledge" instead of the different height roosts I (spent all afternoon one day fretting over whether they'd like them or not) have in our coop. Is this okay? I worry about poop.... I know chickens like to be as high up as possible.
Our coop is an old smokehouse...
I have 9 bantams (and a random buff orp) that all hatched right before Easter. They are 6 weeks old now. They run around outside all day, get rounded up, and come back inside for the night. Well, last night they got the boot and went to live with the 8 hens that are 9-10 weeks old now. Our coop...
One of my Cayuga ducks is having a wing....malfunction. I thought it was an injury from rough handling when I wasn't around. But, after reading another post about droopy wings I looked up angel wing. I think this is what my little guy (I think?) has.
So, now what??
Other than looking quite volture-like, what breed is this bantam?
S/he is 5 weeks old. Any gender guesses? S/he is VERY friendly and not aggressive in the least.
When s/he was even smaller:
We named it Cadbury because of how shockingly small s/he is. It is still really small!!!
Top right...
