    First timer with questions

We have four eggs under a brood hen (we didn't want too many on our first try). Two eggs were 21 days Friday, the other two are a day later. One chick hatched Friday, one Saturday. No external pips in the other two eggs that I can see. I haven't candled this time (last time we tried this I...

    Advice on new baby chick

We are having our first hatch with a broody. Yesterday we had one healthy, vibrant chick hatch out. Last night I noticed another egg was starting to pip. When I went out this morning I thought the chick was dead (the first one is still fine and running around). It's still breathing but it's...

Lost our first chicken last night

In the middle of the night last night we heard some horrible animal screams outside the window. It only lasted a couple seconds so I figured maybe it was cats fighting or something. This morning we found one of our chickens dead outside. I didn't count when I shut them in the coop last night...

9 week old Light Brahma - Pullet or Roo?

We have four 9 week old chicks (all different breeds) and I was pretty sure they are all pullets but this week our Light Brahma's comb and cheeks are turning red fast. Does this mean she's a he? She doesn't act like a roo I don't think but were new to chickens.

    Are these all girls?

Our chickens are about 6 weeks now and I'm wondering if they are really all pullets. Is it too early to tell? We're new to chickens although falling in love fast. ;) #1 is our Easter Egger, #2 is a Brown Leghorn, #3 is a Buff Orpington, and #4 is a Light Brahma. Pardon the messy pen.
