My pullets started laying a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday, I saw a bullseye in one of their eggs. Do I have a stealthy boy in my flock, or is it something that happens with the newly laying eggs?
Does anyone have any experience with ordering juvenile cockerels from MM? I have Marek's, so really need vaccinated birds. We lost our sweet lav orp cockerel a couple of weeks ago (either breeder lied about vaccinating, mishandled the vaccine, or I have a strain resistant to the turkey Marek's...
She is 12 weeks old. She has been consistently 2+ weeks ahead of the other pullets in developing a comb, wattles, and how red they are. Tail feathers are round, not noticeably different than the other pullets. She's my only turken, so no way to compare there. The pullets were ordered from...
DH heard the rooster making a racket so went to see what was going on - found a hawk attacking our rhodebar. Chased it off - happened so fast he doesn't know if the hawk was carrying anything. Now we are missing our other hen - an 8 month splash English Orp. Lots of her feathers on the ground...
Maybe it's because I've gotten used to the naked neck so I don't notice it, or maybe it's a Mommy thing, but I think that my turken is one of the prettier chicks of the nine. 6 weeks old this weekend - they are enjoying their first free range (supervised).
One of the EE's posed - she doesn't...
I ordered three EE's from Murray McMurray but I only got two with the chipmunk coloring. There were an extra white chick and a blue chick (no blue breeds ordered). So either the extra white or the blue was the third EE. I gave half the chicks away, including the blue. The white chick was...
Does anyone know of a hatchery that offers more than the standard HVT killed turkey virus vaccine? I have heard that Meyer does, but they only offer the HVT. I'd really like to get the Rispens vaccine.
Thanks!

I have lost 5 of 9 of my pullets/roos, which were 2 months old when I got them. A necropsy on one showed consistency with Mareks.
60% loss is consistent for an unvaccinated flock. I have been in touch with the breeder, who has had no losses with his flocks, including those from the se hatch...
I am debating between trying a wormer (I have Wazine and Panacur) or an antibiotic (Duramycin-10) as a last ditch effort to save the pullet. I think she should be culled, but my family has vetoed me. They are on their second day of Corid, although I don't think it is cocci.
Some background -...
Got nine 2-month old pullets/roos in mid-June. Two weeks later, we culled one. She wasn't growing, was always hunched up, moving her head/neck in a weird way. Eventually couldn't stand. I thought impacted crop but was unsuccessful treating.
One week later, second pullet was lethargic...
I am not positive on the age of my chickens. I believe they are 16 weeks old. I purchased them as pullets, with one roo, they were approx 2 months old when I got them in mid-June. Breeder later said hatch date was May 8, but I suspect April 8. The breeder did the best he could but said that...
I just got back from the vet with my very sick pullet. After two all-clear fecal floats at my local vet, this vet found mites and strongyles. So I have a bottle of Panacur with instructions to give 0.5 ml a day for three days, then repeat in two weeks. It is in a bottle from the vet - looks...
We had a fecal sample checked and it came back clear for cocci and worms. The pullet had been on 2 days of corid. Today is day 5 on corid - she looked good on day 3 but relapsed on day 4. Not looking great today.
As I cleaned the coop tonight, some of the poops look like they have worms in...
I've had the pullets/roo for three weeks. We put one (Echo) down on the 4th of July - here's a link to that thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/798505/newbie-pullet-with-impacted-crop#post_11566821
Here is info on Jasmine:
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem...
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) - Orpington, 11 weeks, will weigh later but she is 2/3 the size of her two hatch mates. She feels very skinny. About the size of a dove or pigeon.
2) What is the behavior, exactly...
About a month ago we were watching yet another doomsday show on tv - this one happened to be Nova, about what a severe solar storm could do - and I started thinking about how my family could survive if we lost electricity for months. Answer: I need chickens. So I casually mention to my...
