So I have watering cups I use for the girls but every other day there is a layer of algae at the bottom that I have to clean. How do I keep that from happening or is there better ideas? Thanks!
So this comb grew this big within a day or two so I was sure cockerel. But now at almost 9 weeks it hasn't grown any and still just a tiny bit of red. Plus no wattles. What does everyone else think?
So I have a 13x9 chicken run that still has grass and I want the grass to stay as long as possible. Problem is because it's so hot out the poop is starting to smell a bit. How can I cover up the smell without covering the grass with sand or any kind of bedding? Is it even possible?
Is this normal comb growth for a 5 week old RIR pullet? Oooor do I have a roo on my hands? Temperament is very skiddish and is the lowest dominate one of the group.
When do you all recommend putting the chicks outside? Mine are fully feathered except for the necks. They are almost 5 weeks old and in Indy it's about 80 during the day and 65 at night.
First Pic is black astralorp. Judging by the hundreds of pictures I've looked at I think at 3.5 weeks it will be a pullet. (I hope)
Second pic is black sex link. I know it's too early to tell but there was no white spot on head just this brown spot. These are the two I'm worried will be...
So I just found out that black sex link males have white on their heads and females are all black. What about a brown spot? He/she has had it from day 1. Supposed to be a pullet.
Im sure this has been asked before but any ideas on keeping rain out of these mini windows but allowing them to stay open for ventilation? The roof does overhang a bit so it's only a problem on windy rains.
Ok so my 8 week old New Hampshire red already has his/her comb turning red. However the tail feathers are still real short. When sexing is it more important to look at comb or tail feathers? Here's a picture if anyone can tell.
Recently built this. Didn't use plans just kind of went with the flow. My question is how many chickens would be comfortable in this? I have three now two more coming. So ill have 5 but I really want just one more lol. Would six have enough room? I only have 4 roosting boxes built inside...
Hello new to chickens. My family just got two girls. One Rhode Island Red named tickle (that's how my 1 yr old says chicken) and a white leghorn named lazy ( she likes to spread her wings, stretch out her legs and sleep)
