    Any Ideas

Anybody have any idea how to fix this chicks leg? It just hatched a day ago, and I'm not sure what exactly is wrong with it besides its leg turned in.

Hen has tail pointed down but otherwise acts normal.

I recently picked up 2 silver laced wyandotte hens and when I got them home, I noticed one of them had a tail pointing down. She seems to eat and walk around fine, runs out when the door is open, etc. Acts like a chicken should, just has a droopy tail. She is 7 months old, and we have only...

    Project Help Needed!

Here is my plan. I have been incubating eggs and as interesting as it is, I would like to get chicks the natural way. My plan was to build another coop with an enclosed run and take 2 or 3 hens and a rooster of the same breed and keep them solely in that coop. I am hoping that nature will...

    Turkey hatching early please help!!!

I was just rotating my eggs that are in my incubator, my turkey egg had a crack, chip (pip?) in it. The problem is that by my math it shouldn't be hatching until the 30th, I candled the egg and I can see the chick moving inside, so I don't know what to do. Is this normal?

Looking for some laying Orpingtons Ohio

I am having a hard time finding grown orpington chickens ( a few hens, and one rooster) in my area. I prefer lavender or buff, but would be interested in any color really. I just don't want to bother starting from chicks. I have enough chicks already and I would like to start a new project in...

Can't tell what gender my guineas

I recently bought a few adult guineas, and I have no idea how to tell them apart. I know they say you have to listen to the sounds they make, but mine wont make a sound. Even when scared they are silent. Is there any other way to tell? I am really hoping to have a male and female. Thanks

    Which breed to choose???

I am in the process of building a second coop and my plan was to get just one breed of chicken, a few hens and a rooster and let nature take its course. I have a variety in my other coop and cannot get a hen to set for anything. So my question is, which breed, please not bantams or silkies...

Which Type or Breed Sells Best

Not sure if this is the correct forum or not, but my wife and I are going to be taking several chickens to Lucasville in October and other than the various breeds/mixes we are going to get rid of, we were considering getting a breeding pair of chickens/purebred, and raising them separate from...

When to leave eggs for broody hen?

This may seem like a dumb question but I cant find an answer anywhere....I have a hen that once in a while refuses to lay an egg in the nesting box and will only lay if you let her out of the pen. Usually she finds a spot in the thick bushes around the house. She will absolutely refuse to stay...

    Leghorn Won't Lay

I bought a leghorn that I was told was around 8 months old. Since I've had her, which has been roughly 3 months, she has layed 2 eggs, and both were soft shelled. The last one was around a month ago. I've tried quarantining her in case she was sick, and giving her quality food, vegetables...

    Ducks with Turkeys?

Is it ok to raise ducks and turkeys in the same pen (well fenced in back yard) My wife got me 3 turkey hatchlings for this upcoming father's day, and I just adopted three 3 month old pekin ducks. I know I need to keep my turkeys and chickens separate because of blackhead, but does this apply...

    Identification Help Please

I have 3 chickens I am hoping somebody on here can help me identify. This first hen I got from a nearby farm. The guy I got her from said she was a Columbian, i'm assuming he meant columbian rock, but after looking at her, I'm thinking she may be a Delaware. The next two are pullets I...

    New and Full of Questions

I just recently got the chicken bug, and have been reading and talking to everybody who knows anything about chickens to help me out. I have been wanting to have a backyard coop for a few years, but never had the time or money. Anyway, I couldn't bring myself to buy the materials to build the...
