I think i need some direction, please

Ok chicks born 4/2, so about 17 weeks old. I opened the nesting boxes last week, rolled up the material today. Their combs are light red still so I know we have some time. I shifted them to layer feed and have added a calcium feeder. How does this work? Do they just talk among each other and...

    Roo or Hen

Okay, these little ones are 6.5 weeks old. Do you have any thoughts on Roo or Hen? #1 barely has a comb, 2 and 3 do not, but the tail feathers concern me. #1 is a Zombie, and 2 and 3 are EE. I read that if the legs are yellow, a hen, dark a roo. I think I read too much. Any ways thanks.

    Bleeding some

Okay, first off, these chicks will be 5 weeks old as of Wednesday. They went outside to the coop on Wednesday and are doing great. Here is the issue. One of the Golden Comets got hurt. I saw blood right above some of her tail feathers. When I looked, she was not happy at all, but I saw an area...

    Just about 4 weeks old.

Our babies are about 4 weeks old. They will be going out in the run with their brooder box and heater. When can they eat random stuff other than chick feed? We have Construction sand in the run do they need grit? And when can they get treats and fruits and veggies. Thank you

Two weeks old and trying to fly

Okay we are in part of a pickle I guess you could say. We have 10 baby chicks they are now a week and a half to two weeks old. They have almost flown out of the brooder. We do have a cover on it with mesh and stuff so normally they can't get out but I mean we just were reaching in to take care...

    Heatplate question

Ok. I have had the chicks for 5 days so they are a week old. We have the heat plate at an angle. Should they be able to stand under the plate on one side or should they need to bend over some to get in? They seem to be ok as they are active and come and go from the plate and do not huddle...

    4 day old chicks

We have 10 - 4 day old chicks my wife saw what she feels is runny poop, I guess poop with no form. We have no idea which chick. All of them eat and are hyper active. Their feathers are coming in fast and they all are growing in proportion with each other. They also were vacinated for maricks...

How many chickens in this coop ( chicken math on steroids)

Ok, so the coop is 32 sq feet so technically 8 standard chickens. By adding the poop shelf I gain a second layer of about 16 sq. feet. So here is the math. If I close the area under the shelf off for storage I only have 16 sq feet of floor space but the coop is 32 sq feet, or if I leave it open...

Preditor proof or over kill. Time sensitive pouring slab tomorrow.

I understand the concept of putting a 24" buried barrior around the chicken run. However, my coop is 4x8 and sits on a 4x8 slab. Do I need to do something around the areas the the run and coop meet? Or do I need to just put it all around the concrete slab so that can't burrow under the slab? I...
