Moving to a nearby city, it's about 26 miles from my present home. I have 2 coops, the first is a 4'x12' a friend built for me. The second is a hoop coop built from 16' feed panels sold at Tractor Supply and elsewhere, a slightly modified version of the one shown here...
The owner of the feed store where I buy my layer feed is in the habit of saying "February is egg month in Georgia.". I'm just over the line in Tennessee, but his point is, I'm guessing, that the longer daylight hours lead to more girls laying. Do you find this true?
I bought 6 Buff...
. . . they climb upstairs to the coop instead of sleeping all huddled in a corner of the run?
. . . eat their crumbles, watermelon, etc., instead of or in addition to scratching the grass?

I've studied on the options for "wiring" my tractor for a day or two now, and concluded the following:
1) A day or two is not sufficient to learn the ins and outs of chicken wire, hardware cloth, welded wire, etc. for an individual with no prior knowledge of same.
2) Raccoons, possums...

A coworker with a small flock is getting me started, he was kind enough to do the heavy lifting and agreed to build me a tractor. God blessed me with 10 thumbs, and he's built one before as well as a coop, so it should turn out...
