I have a RIR that has been acting odd in the past couple days. Her eyes are clear and shes attentive but she has been quite lethargic. She fluffs her feathers up a bit away from her body. Her comb has gotten paler and is starting to droop. I also noticed she has green poop residue on her rear...
My hen got attacked by a dog this morning and I discovered a fairly large wound on her back/side. She obviously is weak but she still energetic and clear eyed. her poop is completely runny, basically like water. I've brought her inside but considering the size of the wound idk if it is even...
There is a animal swap in Roanoke Va tomorrow. I am planning on going but I just wanted to see of anyone else on here is going. I am looking for some chickens that are around 5 months old.
Please let me know if you are going :)
I live in the city and because of that can only have four chickens on the property. I am considering my other options, and I know several people that have land. So I am thinking (just thinking) if it would work to have chickens on a separate property.
If I did do that I probably would only be...
I just noticed the other day that the tips of my roosters comb are blueish/purple. It's been around 10degrees F sometimes after dark. I don't really know what I should do, if I should even do anything. Would appreciate some help.
Thanks
I think she is about 7 months 3 weeks. She is very skittish. She never goes into the nesting box and I haven't seen her do the squatting thing yet. I really don't understand why its taking so long. My last couple of hens started at 5 1/2 - 6 months. Any advise or thoughts?
Sorry the title was so long. I just got some hatching eggs a week ago and I don't know that exact day them were born. I was wondering if they would hatch based on how long the hen has been sitting on them or based on what day they were layed? I would really like to know!

I live near the city of Lynchburg! Is there anyone else near me?
These are my two buff orpinton chicks
These are my other hens. My Black Austrolorp is siting on 10 eggs right now. I'm so excited!!
I just put 10 eggs under my broody hen and I was wondering if she would be able to protect the chicks from my other full grown hens once they hatch. I have heard that they will protect them but I have also heard that I should separate them. Plus I don't really have a way to separate them at the...
I just placed 10 fertilized eggs under my broody hen today and I was wondering what days should I candle them to make sure they are developing. I need help!
I have two 10 1/2 week old Buff Orpington Chicks and I am almost out of chick starter, can I go ahead and feed them some layer feed? I just don't want to buy a 50lb bag of chick grower if they aren't going to eat it all.
One of my hens is broody and I am getting eggs for her to sit on soon. I was wondering how long it will take for her to start laying again after they hatch.
This is the chick in question. I have two Buff Orpington Chicks that are 10 1/2 weeks old. This one has the body structure of a roster but he/she is not growing spurs + the comb is not bigger than the other chicks. The other thing is that he/she will confront my full grown hens and try to push...
Update- from what people I have said I think it might be coccidiosis and I have heard to give the chick Corid but I don't know where to get the medication, since I can't pay to go to the vet.
One of my 6 1/2 week old chicks got a tick on him the other day and I think he has spirochetes. I...
I was gone all day yesterday on a day trip, when I got home I checked on my hens and chicks and I found a blue/black tick on one of my chick's eyelids. I pulled the tick out and watched my chick walk around the yard. He was really unsteady on his feet and didn't walk as well as he has the past...
I live in the city and I AM allowed to have roosters unless the neighbors complain. I have heard that roosters don't crow until they see light, but I don't know if that is true. I was thinking I could enclose the coop so no light comes in until 7 or 8 in the morning. Does anyone know if that...
I have a two chicks and I'm really sure that one is a rooster, they will be 6 weeks old tomorrow and he seems to be pushing the other chick around a bit more than before.
I was just curious about when he will start mating.
So right now I live in the city, so I can only have 4. I just found that out because the people that right the laws in this city suck at giving out information. So I have five chickens three 1 1/2 years old and two 5weeks old. I was thinking of asking the neighbors about have some in their yard...
Hello! I am want to try my hand at owning a hatchery but I don't know what kind of coops to build.
I'm thinking 5 or 6 coops big enough to fit 10 to 16 chickens.
If you have any ideas or coops of your own that might work please post pictures!!!
