I've heard diatomaceous earth is a good treatment for parasitic worms. You spread it on the ground and mix in a little bit with the food. I know it kills unwanted earthworms in nursery containers, so it seems it could do the job. What's your experience (good or bad)?
I don't trust chicken sold at the super market. Somebody passed me this video, and I'm pretty shocked to find out the supermarket broilers were confined to an area less than 1 square foot...
I tidied up the coop box, and I added two roosts on Tuesday to service 5 hens and 1 rooster. Then I got an egg yesterday and two eggs today. The roosts are crates turned on their side.
This box has been the subject of two previous threads. Oddly, nobody mentioned it could make a stand-alone...

All my juvenile hens are improving since I expanded my run, and I have two birds remaining in the chicken infirmary, Lucille (White), and...
I'd appreciate any helpful suggestions you might have. I'm fairly new with chicken-rearing and I started with 24 chicks last spring. Now I have 20. 3 are really lethargic and they have a stool that's almost clear.
see picture. There are 6 chickens in the right pen with about 60 square feet...
Has anyone tried emergency "space blanket" in the winter to line the inside of their coop? Seems like it would be quite effective.

For some of you this might seem like an odd question, but how many chickens should be "allowed" to coop together under the same roof? I have a coop with a meager 8 square feet of living space and a group of delinquent hens that were caught in the act of "over-cooping" as I explain in this post...
So it's Monday July 14th at 12:30 and the heat of the day is upon us. Well I decided to humor my chickens with a grand opening of their "overcrowded, undersized, no way a chicken would stay in there" coops with an 8 square foot floor plan -- or at least that's what I've been told on this...

I want to thank everyone that contributed to my last design iteration for the shipping crate conversions. I have access to thousands of crates and a green solution is needed. I'm an engineer, and I redesigned these crates/coops based mainly on inputs I received on this forum. Please be...
This is my first post. I'm designing coops from automotive shipping crates, and I'd appreciate some objective reviews on the functionality of my design prototype (as shown in pictures). These coops are intended for egg-layers.
By the Way
Please forgive me for showing a price on a coop...
